This recently from Sen Joe Biden on Obama:

Mr. Biden is equally skeptical—albeit in a slightly more backhanded way—about Mr. Obama. “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

    The first?

WOW! See ya Joe. Pack it in. But then again he is a Democrat. They can get away with making an occasional racist statement.

Didn't Biden get in some trouble last fall over potentially anti-Arab comments that were caught on tape and distributed via YouTube or some such site?

Sounds like Biden is a racist.

I wonder how many democrats will call a spade, a spade, or will they justify his statements...

If any republican would say this, they would be booted!
So come on Democrats, here is your chance to show that you have integrity, call him on the carpet....

    Unless you are a hypocrite.

Biden should have clarified his statement by saying that Obama is the first liberal African-American who is articulate and bright. (Articulate and bright seem to be commonly used adjectives by white polititians, journalists, and other political pundits to characterise African-Americans who are intelligent. If I was black I would be getting tired of these terms.)

Joe Biden should be ashamed of himself. This is the most insidious type of racism. This is typical of the liberal politician who is a covert racist and hides his true feelings behind a mask of philanthropy.

Biden had to quit the 1988 Presidential election for plagerizing a speech. Really folks, with the others in the race for the nomination, what chance does this guy have?

Biden would be a dream-come-true candidate for the Republicans. He has no chance of making it out of the first primary as a viable candidate.

Wow, YOUR comment here is just as bad as Biden's. You should be ashamed of yourself. What makes your comment any better, the fact that you put the word "liberal" in front of it? Disagree with the politics all you want, but leave racial characterizations out of the discussion please.

I am not a Democrat, but am an ideological liberal when it comes to most issues. Biden's comments were disgusting and racist. Frankly, I doubt he has any chance at all for the presidency. Never did care for him. There you go, not so quiet anymore.

Not to speak for Psalm 104_33, but I think the addition of "liberal" was to indicate that most liberal blacks are not articulate or well spoken. Consider Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson as evidence, neither of whom are particularly bright or articulate. Most blacks, none for being bright and articulate are conservatives, or at least conservative leaning, men like Walter Williams and Thomas Sowell. Regardless of what you think of his politics, these two are unquestionably bright and extremely articulate.

I think that is hardly racist.

Biden on the other hand is neither bright nor articulate, based on these kind of gaffes which are not new to him. The only question is whether or not he will be held accountable by the press, and the voters in Delaware. I won't bet my lunch money on either.

Wow, talk about opening mouth and inserting feet! Like I said stick to politics and leave racial characterizations out of it. :BangHead:

Do some of you actually think before responding? Probably not. Otherwise your "vast knowledge" of articulate, well spoken, liberal black Americans would not be so telling. Do the names Cornel West or Kwame Anthony Appiah mean anything to you? What about Natasha Tarpley or Farai Chideya? Let's take it back even farther. You have heard of Thurgood Marshall, right? These are just a few among a vast majority. How ANYONE can make a case that "most liberal blacks are not articulate or well spoken" is beyond my comprehension.

I ask again LEAVE RACIAL CHARACTERIZATIONS out of it and STICK TO POLITICS!

You are adding to his words, to make it look like he said something he didn't.

People don't tell us about the guys you mentioned, but I would hardly call Thurgood Marshall a liberal.

But we get Al Sharpton & Jessie Jackson crammed down our throats, and they are not articulate, and come off as boobs. Clearly the guys you mentioned cannot be considered leaders, since...

Natasha Tarpley, at 36 years old, doesn't even have a home page. hardly a leader.

Cornel West, writer of Deliverance! An Afro-American Revolutionary Christianity, which seeks to reconcile Christianity and Marxism. Good luck getting him to be a leader.

Farai Chideya, she actually has a homepage. I wouldn't put her up against Larry Elder, though. Don't get "leader" off her.

So no, those names mean nothing to me.

It is hardly black American's fault that the media shoves Sharpton and Jackson down our proverbial throats. Besides, I would hardly call them unintelligent, just because you disagree with what they are saying.

As for the others, Pastor Larry specifically said "most liberal blacks are not articulate or well spoken". He said nothing of "leaders". His statement is 100% FALSE. Natasha Tarpley is a 1993 graduate of Harvard, and her work has appeared in a wide variety of "ethnic" magazines and anthologies. While she may not be known to you, she is known in the black community.

As for Cornel West, you may not agree with his views, but that DOES NOT MAKE HIM ANY LESS ARTICULATE OR BRIGHT. Again, he is VERY well known in the black community.

Your kidding about Thurgood Marshall, right? I thought all conservatives were "strict constructionists", of which the Warren court was not. He, (Marshall), was an adamant supporter of inividual rights. Lets see he also consistently supported abortion and opposed the death penalty. One of his greatest allies was Brennan. How is this not liberal? Lets look further back at his career. He was chief council for the NAACP. He actually argued Shelley v. Kramer and Brown v. the Board of Education before the Supreme Court. Kennedy first appointed him to the US Court of Appeal, 2nd district. Why you would call him conservative is beyond me?

Just hazarding a guess here, but maybe if you DID know more about the black community, and those "articulate and bright people" it is composed of you would not be able to so lightly shrug off these offensive racial generalizations.

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM RACIAL GENERALIZATIONS AND STICK TO POLITICS!!!!!!!!! :BangHead:

Does that go for Biden, as well ?

Never mind, I see that it does.

I'll say the black liberal leaders the media throws at us are unintelligent, race-baiting liars. Especially Sharpton. We don't see the others, and I am a frequent visitor to several liberal blogs. Perhaps it is the media's fault.

I generally use "black" or "African-American", if I want to note that kind of thing. My habit is to call people whatever they want to be called. It costs nothing, it's considerate, and it avoids hard feelings.

Of course it applies to Biden. It applies to everyone. I would think I made that point clear.

I also blame the media, but when the news is no longer for the purpose of informing, but more geared to entertainment and raising the ratings that is what happens. Controversy sells, point blank.

I was wondering if that was going to get a pass. I think we all have read enough of Tinytims posts to know that he did not mean it in that way.

Poor choice of phrase to use, considering the subject though. Looks like this thread is full of foot in mouth, ironic.
