The same could be said of our current resident of the White House - substituting "liberal" for "conservative".

Ron Paul would make mincemeat out of Sarah Palin in a debate.

Do you consider the ability to debate well a priority characteristic for the office of President?

Per capita, Alaska is the ultimate welfare state. Alaska gets the biggest per capita cut of the federal pie.

    More stream of consciousness posting?

What does this have to do with anything?

Yes, and the previous resident as well. But the OP was about Palin, stay on point.

I guess we have to hold out hope that someone with real ideas and qualities will run, but the chances of that happening seem to get washed away in 30 second sound bites and pointless "debates" which really aren't debates.

Really, if anyone is looking to Palin for anything other then politics as usual, you are looking with Republican colored glasses.

Yes, he would. Ron Paul is so smart, even when he's wrong.

Just a few items I found on this:

There is a lot more on the Net to read. If the Conservative folk in Alaska want a smaller government they could begin refusing to take the money they receive for simply living there.

They probably could if they could sell their oil. It's the price of denying a state it's own resources.

Once again our left leaning friends come from the only position they can see. One of Fairness. It's Unfair for Alaskans to get so much Federal Money per Capita!

If the Federal Earmarks for Alaska only contained the purchase of one new Ford Truck the Per Capita Federal Earmarks Spending for Alaska would be larger than any other state. DUH! It's a matter of population.

Now if you want to talk about boondoogles and individual pork projects like the Bridge to Nowhere then you can make a case in any state. But you have to get specific and do the homework.

Wanna bet that the Federal Government spends less per capita in Washington, D.C. on Medicare and Medicaid than they do in Alaska? I mean after all Washington, D.C. has fewer residents than Alaska.....Let me know what you find out.

Per capita means per person ...............

    Anyway here is what I found;

Alaska is 2nd in the nation in receiving Medicare/Medicaid funds. Only Connecticut receives more per person.

    Alaska's population is 698,473
    Wash. DC's population is 544,270

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_population

Alaska receives more per capita and its total is more than DC as they have a larger population.

    I would say that Alaska is doing very well in receiving money for their oil. Read below;
$1,875,549,892 And yet with Conservative Palin's bloated budget the state of Alaska was due to run a budget deficit in 2009

Oh well .............. what was your point again?

Your link is for 2008. Mine is for 2009 ... slightly different years.

    Also here is another:

    https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0502302200

I checked further back and Alaska always leads DC in funds received per capita.

Threshold numbers are calculated numbers - not Money actually spent.

The 2008 numbers are the latest the U.S. Census Department has online.

Crabby, why do you resent providing health care to poor people living in the frozen wilderness?

That does not seem to be a very Christian attitude on your part.

If you will take your number for Alaska avg. Per Capita Medicaid and multiply it by the Alaska population you listed you will get a total of $19,504,160,052.00

    That's $19.5 Billion!!!!

The total expenditure for Alaska Medicare and medicaid for FY 1008 was only $309,316,423

    That's $309 Million

I still say you have bogus numbers.

No wonder the politicans can make charts that prove any point they want to make. Nobody seems to use the same numbers in Wash. D.C.

Well your argument is with the Social Security Administration, not me. The numbers are their numbers. Also did you multiply the number by then entire population or of only those receiving funding. Anyway, it is their numbers. I didn't invent them.

I don't and that is not part of this discussion. We are talking about how much is spent in Alaska and DC. This is in response to an earlier post. Read it and be informed. If you want to discuss whether the poor should receive health care start a new thread. I think they should. What about you?
