It looks as though Westchester District Attorney Jeanine Pirro is going after Sen. Clinton's seat next year.

I don't think it will be easy. Every report I read says N.Y.ers are very happy with the job Hillary is doing.

According to reports I heard on Fox News & CNN, many Republican New Yorkers think she is doing a good job of representing their state as well. From what I can see,she is an active Senator working to help the people of her state, and not a seat warmer.

Don't know much about Ms. Pirro, but there is no way she would beat Clinton.

Daisy, do you remember Geraldine Ferraro (sp?)? She was the VP candidate on the ticket with Walter Mondale in 1984. She had a similar problem with her husband's financial dealings. But then she is a Liberal so those things didn't count against her.

Normally I wouldn't root for a liberal Republican, but in this case I say:

GO JEANINE GO! GO JEANINE GO!

She may not defeat Senator Clinton but I think she will give her a good run for her money. And she could damage her going into 2008 if Senator Clinton decides to run for president.

Yes, I remember Geraldine Ferroro. She was a Democrat, not a Liberal.

I don't think John Zaccaro was tried and convicted on felony tax evasion for cheating on joint, personal returns, was he?

So far, Mr. Pirro's conviction has not been held against Mrs. Pirro. But many feel that she is a liberal Republican.

KenH, I think that will be the center of Pirro's campaign - that she, unlike her opponent, will not run for president in '08. I hope Clinton doesn't either. Although she herself is not divisive - she's gone out of her way to work with Republicans such as Gingrich - but her personna is.

Even people who know, like, and agree with Hillary recognize that she is very divisive... us vs them, winner take all.

Her recent "work with them" attitude is a calculated counter to her past divisiveness. This will be necessary when (not if) she runs for President. Surrogates are testing the waters for her right now so that she can deny that she has made a decision to run in 2008.

I think within Hillary is that Goldwater girl
and shock! and awe! Bill was actually a moderate
    Republican in his policies

and shock! Hillary is to the right of Bill.

Jeanine Pirro handled herself real well on
Wolf Blitzer and have seen her on shows where
she is very professional..but she is a liberal
Republican make no mistake about that.

Hopefully her husbands problems can be dealt with
and explained and we get past that.

but the buzz is, Hillary is a worker and has reached across the aile perhaps it is because
    that "Goldwater Girl" still exists.

Now Jeanine has to still run against Nixons son
in law but I think she will beat him but he could
rake her over the coals about her husband not
    Hillary.imho

In what way has she been devisive? That's not a rhetorical question.

The only thing that springs to my mind was the disastrous, failed national healthcare reform. She met in secret and came up with, bleah, HMOs. I once belonged to a really bad one, so that really soured me on her.

One thing about smart people is that they occasionally learn from their mistakes and change their ways. I'm mostly undecided. I would've voted for her Republican opponent last time, but his entire platform was "I'm not her" and assorted Hillary-bashing. That pushed me to vote for her. She's been ok as a senator so far.

Here is Jeanine Pirro's campaign website:

    www.jeaninepirro.com/message.cfm

I heard her on Hannity's radio show tonight. She is very impressive. There's no way she will play softball with Hillary Clinton like a male candidate would have to do. She will take the gloves off as I know Clinton will as well.

My recollection of Rick Lazio's campaign was not softball. It was the usual unleashed pack of attack dogs and the shrug, "I can't help what they say" routine.

Sen. Clinton, to her credit, campaigned well and on the issues. I've read that Pirro's campaign will concentrate on Clinton's supposed bid-to-be for the presidency.

There is a rumor now that Sen. Clinton may not rerun for her senate seat, saving her treaure chest campaign financing for the big one. That doesn't seem likely to me because even if she does run for president she can raise extra money on the current race and then trasfer it.
