Over the last 10 years I occasionally ask True Believers to list for me the commandments of God so I may attempt to observe them. No one ever has. You all argue on various threads about commandment keeping but apparently none of you know what you are talking about.

Someone please give me an inclusive list.

What the Bible refers to as "The Ten Commandments" is refered to in James 2 as "The Law of Liberty" and the Lev 19:18 - Deut 6:5 law is called "The Royal Law" in James 2.

In Romans 7 and Eph 6 the Ten Commamdments are just called the Commadments o the Law. In 1Cor 7 the "Law of God". But this is not to say that the rest of God's Word is not binding or also referred to as Law.

Many of us have accepted the "Bible" as the "Word of God" so it has 66 books in it typically.

Thus we find NT authors quoting extensively from the 39 books of the OT.

    in Christ,

    Bob

OK, Bob, The rabbis list 613 statements in GEN thru DEUT as the Law. You would add other statements in the rest of the Tenakh and the NT? Maybe over 1000 laws of God and no one has a list?

If you rationalize your way to not even having a list of them, why bother with any? After all, True Believers say that breaking one law is the equivalent of breaking them all, however many they may be. If we don't know what they are we must be breaking hundreds every day without knowing it. Is ignorance an excuse?

Isn't is pharisitical (sp?) to make a big deal out of some laws and ignoring the ones we don't like or are to lazy to discover?

And the people who claim only the ten biggies count . . . homosexual activity is not mentioned in the ten. Why pick out the law that makes you (not me) uneasy and claim ten laws plus one? Or plus two or three?

You say that homosexuality is condemned in the NT? Lesbianism isn't mentioned. Neither is doing interesting things . . . while shepherds watched their flocks by night.

By the way, the carol intimates that the sheep were owned by the shepherds? Is "their" in the Greek text?

I ask all these strange questions because "the devil is in the details." I'm obligated to read the fine print in human contracts but ignore the fine print in God's contracts? Only True Believers and/or official priests can understand the fine print? Isn't that what the Protestants were protesting in the first place?

You keep arguing that we do not know what the Bible says and thus do not know what God commands.

    I find that puzzling.

You keep numbering "certain portions" of God's Word while ignoring the 1050 commands of the NT.

Again a puzzling practice on your part.

You keep arguing that Lesbianism is not condemned in the Bible - yet we see it condemned in Lev 18 AND in Romans 1. Where is your difficulty there?

And you appear to close your post with an appeal to "secret knowledge" as if only some people can read the Bible.

Again that is puzzling as well.

    in Christ,

    Bob

    Well...

If you accept Jesus as an Expert on God's Commands... :D

Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.
Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

It all comes back to the heart attitude towards God and then towards one another...

Fortunately, as a Gentile, I am covered by the Jerusalem Council's Edict.

There are 10 commandments numbered differently depending on your christian tradition.
High christian Churches Generally list them as
Most Congregational and non high protestant churches list them as
    Then there are 613 Mitzvot

That only list 100 of the 613 laws. And then we have Jesus summary of all the commandments into two catagories. 1) love God with all that we have and 2) love each other as we love ourselves. According to Jesus all the Laws and prophets hang on these two principles. You can find an entire listing of the 613 Mitzvot here http://www.religionfacts.com/judaism/practices/613.htm
then if you want to go catholic/orthodox/anglican there are canon laws which also number in the hundreds.
Does that help you with the laws?

Yet another mocking thread by billwald, the unbeliever.

His reference to "True Believers" should set off all your raders. He is simply attempting to call us all fanatics, ala "The True Believer" by Eric Hoffer.

    Commands are different than commandments.

When you instruct a child to do something, you're not giving them a "commandment."

    Dear Matt,

I find it very disturbing that you would call someone "the unbeliever" when your own behavior is very decidedly sub-Christian.

    Think about it.

    Your friend,

Even if I was stalking you, which I'm clearly not, you refused to treat me civilly as I asked.

    GE:

I assume the reason why no one has answered you is because you expect the answer from the wrong source(s).

I would say, try the Scriptures; but rather no; not the Scriptures; try Jesus Christ Himself for your answer to “what you are talking about” yourself! Jesus Christ is all “the commandments of God so I may attempt to observe them”. Note, the answer is not only Jesus Christ is all “the commandments of God”, but, He is all “the commandments of God so I may attempt to observe them.”

From the nature of the case it is IMPOSSIBLE to “give an inclusive list”. The Christ living in you is the very Christ who became man, gave his life the sacrifice of God for the sin of man AGAINST HIM, and rose from the dead to give life to those whom He gave his life for.

That is how God Himself spelled out to us what his Commandments are. Understand it or don’t understand it.

'The Jerusalem Council's Edict' is as useless as the Necea council's edict to save anyone. You base your hopes on man, go ahead.... and, if you insinuated you are not obliged to keep the Sabbath by the Jerusalem Council, you're no less mistaken....

Are you saying that I have to keep all the commandments to be saved? :BangHead:

Are you saying I need to keep the Sabbath to be Saved????

No one said anyone was relying on a particular councils edicts to be saved.

To be relieved from additional burdens of works, yes...

Not to mention the 1050 commands of the NT http://www.puritan-books.com/books/pdf/new_testament_commands.pdf

The bottom line is that the Bible is the "Word of God" and it contains 66 books.

Counting the number of commands we find in this book or that book does not change the basic fact.

But what is interesting is that God speaks 10 Commandments directly to mankind and even though the Law to "Love the Lord" Deut 6:5 and to "Love your Neighbor as yourself" Lev 19:18 is kept in the SIDE of the ark -- the actual 10 commandments themselves, as written by the finger of God are kept inside the ark. These ten were spoken by God, written by God and in Deut 5 God says "He spoke these TEN words and added no more".

Thus God Himself has set them apart.

Thus when Paul says in 1Cor 7:19 "What matters is keeping the Commandments of God"
and when Christ said pre-cross "IF you love Me KEEP My Commandments" John 14:15
and when John again says that the saints "Keep the Commandments of God" in Rev 12:17 and in Rev 14:12.
and when James quotes from them calling that unit of Ten "The Law of Liberty" --

    We should at least "notice".

    in Christ,

    Bob

You aren't to keep ANY Commandment(s) to be saved.

    Afterthought:

Not even the fact you are saved is guarantee you will keep any Commandment(s).
