what is up with the RCC?

Are they going for the gay marriage idea or not???

one minute they want more openness to the idea of gay marriage - the next they say they would rather stick with the Bible.

Here we have a Jesuit idea that has been tried out many times in the past. I think the synod needs to study that idea out in detail to see if it has merit based on the way it has worked out for them so far.

Where have we heard that idea before?

The New Ways Ministry, a Catholic gay-rights group, said it was "very disappointing that the synod's final report did not retain the gracious welcome to lesbian and gay people that the draft of the report included".

Now "welcome" could be the way that we "welcome prostitutes and pedophiles to come to church, repent of their life of sin and accept forgiveness and the new nature that is the gift to those who are - in Christ - 2Cor 5".

But the that might not be the 'welcome" that the "Catholic gay-rights group" is talking about. Rather that is probably the 'welcome' the conservative Cardinals were already holding out as a solution.

Which gets us to the issue of punishment for dissenters.

On the topic of homosexuality, the final report noted how some families have some members who are homosexually oriented, and said that there had been significant discussion surrounding the appropriate pastoral response in accord with Catholic teaching.

“There are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God's plan for marriage and family,” the report read in paragraph 55.

However, it also emphasized that “men and women with a homosexual tendency ought to be received with respect and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.”

While this might put it into context as an overall perspective the church holds. This article concerns the teachings in church doctrine as pertains to homosexuality and of course gay marriage:

(Sic)"...Marriage is oriented to serving the common good, not to providing rights and benefits to individuals within that relationship. It is not necessary or even desirable, therefore, to tamper with a fundamental social structure in order to protect individual rights and to grant all citizens their legitimate social benefits.

The issue of same-sex marriage must be understood as a question about marriage as it has been received from the Creator and subsequently received from each generation throughout history. To perceive it as a question of justice for homosexual persons starts the conversation on the wrong path."
