Antithesis.com seems to be a rather ... uhhh ... interesting site. Good reading, though.

Is this a serious question or do you just want to argue?

Please do not hijack this thread that is discussing the topic of the Prayer of Jabez with irrelevant questions.

Feel free to start a NEW TOPIC (probably NOT in the book forum, though)

Thanks. That's the rules we play by here! [IMG]

Seen a few reviews for the parody of it called "The Mantra of Jabez".

I have both; The Mantra of Jabez is a wonderful satire. Douglas Jones turns Wilkinson's booklet on its head, lampooning practically every one of his anecdotes in support of his own thesis, that being that the prayer of Jabez is about cultivating good character more than receiving blessings from God.

Like you say, though, you really have to have read The Prayer of Jabez to appreciate Mantra fully.

I have one that is called:

Jabez - I just wanted more land.

It is an exposition of the prayer.

    Can you say "hocus pocus"?

I'm afraid there is no formula to make God do what we want....simple as that.

Sorry, forget my last comment. [IMG]

    On Topic:
I think its sad to see this type of literature fill our churches. A member of my church acctually gave a sermon that came from the POJ during the pastor vacation. :(

Don't know if this is true or not, but it makes sense. Notice that Jabez was described as being "righteous." Was this not the reason God answered his prayer?

No. God answered his prayer because he faithfully prayed it 3 times a day.

Come to think of it, I wonder if this is what Daniel was praying when he prayed three times a day.

That is it! When Paul prayed three times to have the thorn in the flesh removed, it was the Prayer of Jabez. Oh thankfully, I have discovered the answer. Paul must have had the thorn taken away later in life. How do I know? Because the Prayer of Jabez is always answered.
