The Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) is again complaining about the wall that Israel is building to protect Israelis from terrorist bombings.

In Seattle last week, they announced that they would target 5 companies for possible divestment: Caterpillar, Citigroup, ITT Industries, Motorola, and United Technologies. Citigroup is accused of aiding Palestinian terrorists but the other 4 are accused of selling supplies to the Israeli military.

The PCUSA promises to talk with senior management of these 5 companies. Afterwards, if they don't get the answers they want, the PCUSA says that they will consider divestment. These companies were chosen because of a 2004 resolution that had these guidelines:

Companies named to the focus list were selected based on criteria developed by the Committee in November 2004, which directed research toward corporations whose activities and products are used to:

-- support and maintain the occupation
-- establish, expand, or maintain Israeli settlements
-- support or facilitate violent acts by Israelis or Palestinians against innocent civilians
-- support or facilitate the construction of the Separation Barrier

The religious left is complaining about the wall but it really has saved a lot of lives and brought some peace to the area. Personally, I would like to see such a wall along our borders north and south, wouldn't you?

Anti-semitism in the PCUSA is nothing new. Personally, I think we should target those companies for investment if they follow through with their hateful threats.

My thoughts, too, Joseph. Might be a good investment if the PCUSA says it is a bad one.

That is absolutley ridiculous, what to Caterpillar have to do with what anyone uses their machinery for?

Do they understand that there are always two sides to a story, and that there is a reason that houses are bulldozed? How do there missions operate if they cannot see that other countries have a different culture to them? Do they seek to impsoe their own culture on Israel - or the surrounding areas with no regard for the culture that exists?

I know that it seems bad to bulldoze the house of family members of terrorists, yet that is taught in the Koran that the family are responsable. We may not like that attitude, yet it is the culture of the area. People need to think about what that really means before seeking to impose their own bigoted ideas.
