==You are going to have a very hard time proving that Jefferson would have supported a war against a country that posed no real threat to the United States. Saddam was evil but he was weak. We could have used targeted, but heavy, air strikes to weaken Saddem even more. He was in a box and we could have made the box smaller. But noooo Bush thought he needed to invade. Maybe he thought it would be somewhat easy since he believed that the Iraqi people would stand up in mass to support his mission? I don't know. However I do know this, invading Iraq was one of the worst mistakes any President in recent history has made. The hornets nest he has stirred up will haunt us for years to come. He has made the problem with radical Islam worse. :tear:

    war inevitable

the war was inevitable as if it were prophetic although things could have been done differently we all know that we cannot negotiate with the terrorists unless we give up that cannot happen I do not know the answer but God does and evil does not win evil can take many forms I believe the President was right to not just stop Saddam but place a controlling influence in the area yes he could have continued to use bombs but because troops were inserted this gave the Iraqis the greater possibility of becoming christians I understand very little of this and pray for Iraq's independence freedom but mostly salvation is War the answer I can sincerely say that I do not believe enough time has passed for Iraq to achieve it's capability to maintain independence and at the same time they must be willing to continue the fight and I also believe that Syria and Iran will have to be hit hard before things will really begin to change

Iraq had no part in the attacks on 9/11/2001. We should have focused on wiping out al Qaeda and its Taliban allies in Afghanistan. Now, due to President Bush's flawed performance as commander-in-chief, al Qaeda is rebuilding itself in Pakistan and the Taliban is posed to attempt to retake power in significant portions of Afghanistan.

Whose nukes? Iraq didn't ever have them, nor had they threatened the United States.

You are one scary dude! Our national goal has nothing to do with converting anyone to Christianity. You sound like a Christian version of al Qaeda. With God's help; with Allah's help...best to leave God out of our petty human wars. I suspect he has no part in any of it.

I agree with Martin & Ken. Bush's ill-advised invasion of Iraq is the worst policy mistake in the history of the nation, and has made us even more hated and has hurt far more than it helps. The repurcussions from the Bush expedition into Iraq have not begun to be felt, but I fear we will feel them in years to come. War mongering is not the way to peace.

No. Al Qaeda attacked us with the aid of its Taiban allies. That is the group that we are in violent conflict with. To include anyone else is to lose our focus and losing our focus causes us to be less safe from further attacks by al Qaeda.

So Jefferson attacked some pirates. That's nothing compared with what Bush has done.

But the key is, the pirates were actually attacking us, on the open seas. That is a suffcient cause for war.

The fact that our president needed another war to boost his popularity, is not sufficient cause.

Were they actually attacking us, or were they mostly raiding supply ships and disrupting trade routes ?

Please, do yourself a favor. Dont even compare these two men. Jefferson was insightful, had original ideas, common sense, and leadership.

They were pirates, doing what pirates do, argh.

I guess the difference between them and our own privateers, is that our pirates were allowed to attack the merchant ships of our enemies, while the Barbary .... come to think of it, I don't know if the Barbary privates were restricted to political enemies or if they were free-for-all. Once we made the treaty, we didn't have much trouble with them.

I don't know that any ever attacked a U.S. military vessel, until the U.S.S. constitution, under Commadore Edward Preble confronted them. And I could not prove that they were free for all, but have to assume so. I was stationed on a destroyer named after Preble, so the history was kind of hammered into my head. But that was 28 years ago, also. Brain cells may have atrophied, ya know ?

The point of my question is to try and get Galatian to prove his assertion that wen were being attacked by them. I'm not trying to say he's wrong, just asking for some proof.

President to be Jefferson had a large part in writing the Declaration of Independence, and framing the Bill of Rights and Constitution. Now, imagine the other one doing anything close to that.

Jefferson worked to give us the Bill or Rights; Bush is running it through the shredder.
