of course. If you don't believe the Word of God, how can we expect you to believe a modern day company that says oils were pressed in a sack?

    I gave you a link

    http://showcase.netins.net/web/ankh/wine.html

There were many different forms of wine presses. The most simple consisted mainly of a bag, in which the grapes were put and squeezed. This was done by the means of two poles that turned in opposite directions, a vat was then placed beneath it to collect the juices. There were also other types of wine presses. One example of a larger type of wine press was the foot press, such as one that had been found in Lower Egypt. Some of wine presses that have been discovered were highly ornamented and consisted of at least two distinct and separate parts. This was the lower portion or vat and the trough. This is where the workers, usually men with bare feet would crush and stomp the fruit. They would support themselves in this part of the press by means of ropes suspended from the roof. From their great height, some of these may have had an intermediate reservoir which would have probably received the juice on its way to a pipe that was connected to a strainer or column. This devisement is similar to that which was used by the Romans. It is also possible that footpress may also have been used as a first process in the making of the wine and then re-pressed via the twisted bag pressing as has been illustrated in various tomb paintings.

Because I know how the olives were pressed. You have not a clue. And I dont think I am required to believe modern day companys.

    I have a serious question.

Is it wrong of you to accuse me of not believing Gods word because I think you are wrong in your interpritation of it?

Are you not in essence calling me not a Christian?

Dont suger coat it give me a strait answer.

    Post number please

Oh the link to pressing grapes. THat is not what you said. You said you could press olives. Can you not see the difference between a grape full of juice and a hard olive.

Show me a link to pressing OLIVES without a press.

Sir that is a wine press. It will press grapes nicely. You can crush juice out of a grape with your fingers.

Go get a can of black olives and crush one between your fingers and see if juice comes out.

yer talking double tongued here, DeeJay. First you say you know how the olives were pressed, then you say you think I am wrong.

If you know how they were pressed, you would know I was wrong. The truth is, you did not live in Bible times and you are just trying to prove that things could not be pressed just to further the false doctrines on alcoholic wines being ok in the life of a Christian. When in reality, you are wrong on both accounts.

God also called it wine from the field. But you have an elaborate theory to explain that. Even though they are only words apart in the same sentence

I'd like to get away from the olive oil...and answer Brother Bob's question. I can give you a testimony where something "good" came out of drinking alcoholic beverages.
My wife and I were invited over my neighbor's house a couple summers ago for a cookout. He served beer, wine and mixed frozen drinks. Now, my neighbor is real up front and on edge kind of person. He's an Italian catholic, with a confrontative demeanor. After dinner and a couple of drinks, we were all sitting around talking, and he begins to talk about his brother in law...one of those "born againers" :D

This was the perfect opportunity to share our faith with him...as he was calm and laid back. God used this situation perfectly. Turns out that his brother in law is one of the most legalistic, KJVO people you can meet, and we were able to present a different take on what God's children look like...non demeaning, regular people...who have been forgiven and put their trust in Christ.

I can imagine this situation in the same light as the Pharisees looking down on Jesus eating (and drinking...wine, yes, real wine) with "sinners".

I really wish those who believe alcoholic beverages are sinful...and not the misuse of them would please just open your eyes and read Scripture with an open mind, and not a denominational, family upbringing, or personal presupposition.

Where did I say I "think" you are wrong. I know you are wrong. And olives are the same now as then. They can not be pressed with out a press.

You did not answer my question

Is it wrong of you to accuse me of not believing Gods word because I think you are wrong in your interpritation of it?

OK, I am humbly back in because I was not lying... use the right word for corn in this passage, and it is not Greek, it is HEBREW!!!! You know, the language the OT was written in, what God actually said!... here it is along with the strongs definition:

    H1715
    דּגן
    dâgân
    daw-gawn'
From H1711; properly increase, that is, grain: - corn ([floor]), wheat.

Here is also a verse that also uses the same word...
    Numbers 18:12
    (12) All the best of the oil, and all the best of the wine, and of the wheat, the firstfruits of them which they shall offer unto the LORD, them have I given thee.

The word dagan is translated as wheat... so dagan in the hebrew can be translated as something other than corn....

You have yet so show where they tapped the trees to get olive oil.

God said Oil... you are right. but it doesn't matter what the oil came out of the fields in... It could have been a bucket, or still in the olives.

Just like the wine could have came out in buckets, or it could have came out in the grapes....

In ancient times September was not only time to prepare for the New Year, but it was also time for harvesting olives. It lasted through November. Near the orchards there was usually an olive press, as sketched in the image above. The oil was extracted in several basic steps.
    1. The farmer would grab the branches of the olive tree, and tap the branches with a stick. They would then pick up the fallen olives, being careful not to bruise them. Each olive is filled with oil, in fact over half of its weight is pure oil.
    2. Next the pits are removed and the olives are gently placed into the large basin, and the pressing begins by rolling the large millstone. There was a large wooden stick placed through the center of the stone, to help roll it in a circle over the olives. The oil would flow into a container and the crushed pulp into a basket. This first pressing was the purest oil and was used mainly for lamps, cosmetics and holy anointing.
    3. The second pressing was for the crushed pulp. It was the actual baskets that were crushed.
It is interesting that the Hebrew word for olive press is "Gethsemane" and the Garden of Gethsemane at the Mount of Olives is where Jesus was in agony as He prayed. Jesus ascended into heaven from the Mount of Olives, and will return again a second time at the Mount of Olives where every eye will see him.
