On my older win 98se when I wanted to turn something off from starting up and being on my taskbar I knew how to do it. Well it doesn't work the same on this one apparently. So how do I do it? I used to click start, run, and type in msconfig, and turn off stuff like msn messanger from running automatically on start up. What do I type in now to turn stuff off on start up?

Many programs have an options bar on the menu where you can control that.

Others if you right click on the icon in the task bar have an option that opens up.

You might also right click on start, choose to open all users, double click on programs directory, double click on start directory and see if the programs icon is there. If it is it will automatically start when you boot up. Delete it to make it go away.

You will want to check your Startup folder (c:/windows/programs/startup) to see what is there. Also if you are using autoexec.bat and config.sys, check for RUN= and LOAD= lines. Also check the registry (back it up first). I think there is a free tool called Startup Cop that will do all this for you from a GUI.

In your browser there may be a choice of how things operate in the options. If you don't find something go to start/control panel/ and there is usually one labeled mouse or something related. Open it and snoop for some settings.

Go to Control Panel, and open your Mouse options. Set your double-click and sensitivity settings.
