There are many questions I would like to ask on
the board but won't because of the stir they
would cause or for some other reason. Here are a
    few:

Who is Jack Hyles and why is he loved/despised
    so strongly?

Do Arminians and Calvinists expect to share
eternity, and will they get along then?

Do those who spend most of their time here in
angry brawling really believe they are demon-
strating the expected behavior of believers?

Am I completely innocent of brawling? 8o\

How many of you would really like to meet
someone from the board who lives near you but
you don't suggest it for fear of frightening that
person or for fear that it could bring on some
    unwanted responsibility?

Do you also avoid reading some threads because
of the subject matter or some other reasons?

Do you also have questions you would like to ask
    but don't?

    Abiyah,
Jack Hyles was a hyper-fundamentalist pastor of an extremely large IBF church, First Baptist Church of Hammond Indiana. One of the things he was noted for was a hugh bus ministry. If I remember, at one time they used more than 200 buses.

Unfortunately, he was very extreme in his positions, especially the KJV debate; he was KJV taken to the extreme. While I was a student at Tennessee Temple University in the mid-eighties, I remember that it was reported that at Hyles-Anderson college (Jack Hyles' college) students were forbidden wearing pink shirts; it supposedly made them appear to be pro-homosexual.

I sent you some links about Jack Hyles. He not only was messed up doctrinally, but was an adulterer.

Do Arminians and Calvinists expect to share
eternity, and will they get along then?

Yep... because those of us who KNOW we're right will just accept those who were confused. LOL.

Do those who spend most of their time here in
angry brawling really believe they are demon-
strating the expected behavior of believers?

UG...... Once I see the brawling start.... I don't look back at that thread. Ugly!

Am I completely innocent of brawling? 8o\

I've not ever seen you speak in an unChristian manner!

How many of you would really like to meet
someone from the board who lives near you but
you don't suggest it for fear of frightening that
person or for fear that it could bring on some
    unwanted responsibility?

Some, I would love to meet. I've had several online friends come and stay in my home. 2 from India! One couple from Indiana. However, I had one woman, dying of a horrible condition, who wanted to come live with us and when I said no... because I did not want my then 6 year old son to witness bleeding from eyes, ears, etc.... she became very bitter toward me.

Do you also avoid reading some threads because
of the subject matter or some other reasons?

Yes. Bible Versions is the first that comes to mind. I use NKJV.

Do you also have questions you would like to ask
    but don't?

Under some topics, yes. Mainly because I've not been here very long and I'm sure answers are somewhere in the archives.

Jack Hyles, in his heyday was to fundamentalists what John Wayne is to cowboys. He was the king of the fundamentalists. In saying this I am speaking of the 70s and very early 80s. During this time, there was a split between fundamentalists and Jack Hyles was the one person I know of who spoke on both sides of the split and was highly respected. He did this because his church was large. He also did it on the strength of his speaking ability. Hyles is quite simply the most captivatiing public speaker I have ever heard. By the late 70s- mid 80s, Hyles methods were coming into question. Then in 1988, a well-known fundamentalist newspaper published an expose on Hyles accusing him of carrying on an affair for years, among other things. From that point on, Hyles became marginalized, at best, and avoided by most fundamentalists. Someday, someone will have to write a book about Jack Hyles and get to the bottom of all the rumours about him. The history of fundamentalism cannot be complete or accurate without it. It will be a page-turner.
When we get to eternity, Jesus will give us all a good spanking, then wipe away all tears & we'll be OK.
Yes, but they could be wrong.
    And so am I!!!!
I have met a few people, but I prefer to be cautious in this area.
    Yes.
    No.

ITA. The rumor mongers have had the floor long enough. Jack Hyles was a much loved preacher and extemely dynamic. I have never heard anything unscriptural come out of his mouth.

I had two children attend his college.

He has turned thousands of young men and women into Godly missionaries, preachers, and preacher's wives; not to mention the scads of souls that have been saved through his ministry.

    IMHO,
    Sue

    yes I do.
sometimes I'd just like to say
'just what were you thinking when you wrote that?'

    Good one!

I have a few questions, but I don't want to get stoned, so I think I will wait until people know me well enough to know where I stand.

    Blessings,

Who is Jack Hyles and why is he loved/despised so strongly?
I was always afraid to ask myself. If I thought it was monumentally important for me to know...I would probably research the answer elsewhere rather than ask here

Do Arminians and Calvinists expect to share eternity, and will they get along then?
Ha! The Bible says that all things will be made clear when we recieve our perfect bodies and are made like Jesus...so there won't be anything to discuss/debate anymore.

Do those who spend most of their time here in angry brawling really believe they are demonstrating the expected behavior of believers?
If a person is "prayed-up" the Holy spirit will guide their attitude and it will be tempered with the fruit of charity. I don't believe that people who post angry are "prayed up." JMO

How many of you would really like to meet someone from the board who lives near you but you don't suggest it for fear of frightening that person or for fear that it could bring on some unwanted responsibility?
Meeting someone from here, would probably never happen.

Do you also avoid reading some threads because of the subject matter or some other reasons?
Some topics require either a doctorate in theology or a great deal of study to even post to...let alone read. When I post to them...it takes a lot out of me. So yes, there are forums that I stay away from.

Do you also have questions you would like to ask but don't?
Not really, I'm pretty straight forward. ;)

    Questions? Hmmmm?

Do you want fries with that shake?

Are you still in Junior High?

Is this thread going anywhere but down hill?

Why are so many people rehashing the same old topics?

Can you limit your thread to a couple of paragraphs?

Did you see the topic and read the first thread or did you just skim over it?

    Do you want your receipt?

    G'day Abiyah [IMG]

    My 2ยข worth:

I think this was the first I've heard of Jack Hyles, will do some digging later.

While either Arminians or Calvinists don't know how they were saved, I think there will be those from both camps in Heaven, however one group will be very surprised at how they got there ;) Come to think of it I think everyone will be surprised how they got there.

I try not to brawl..honest ;) It is easy to get worked up now and then I suppose. If you ever brawled though the board would disintegrate in shock [IMG]

I spend a lot of time on IRC, have met up around 30 people IRL so far (I know, I need a life  ) BB is a bit trickier considering most of yers are foreigners ;) Although I managed to get over to USA for a few weeks back in 2000 for an IRL meet, so don't think yers are safe over there ;)

    I don't avoid any threads.

If I had any questions, someone would hear about it [IMG]

Oh, I've brawled. I did here last night, and I paid
for it. I had nightmares all night about it, just as
I did after vehemently disagreeing with someone
a couple nights ago. Everytime, I spend the whole
night fighting, and it is awful. Although i slept, I
    got No Rest last night!

Yes, there are questions I won't ask on this board. Primarily because there are questions I've asked and statements I've made here that have been totally misunderstood. But I suppose that's true of all message boards everywhere.

There are questions I will not ask. And questions that I know better than to answer.

There are questions I will ask, by PM, of members I have come to trust.

For the most part, I avoid the Calvinism/Arminian forum; very little new going on there.

The Translations forum can be rancorous at times, but there is interesting information there.

I'm about like you, I don't like fries, alwa ys order a burger(when I do eat them) without ketchup, and am not eating plastic cheese even on threat of death. Since I drink only caffeine free drinks, I usually only have water.
