Pastor Rick Warren may not have been the person who wrote or initiated the document on the environment, but he is the one being used to promote it. Saw him on John Kaisch show on FNC "Heartland" Saturday February 12th, can only say I was underwhelmed at the lack of knowledge, Pastor Rick Warren has on the subject. Gave no biblical support, just wants the government to do more.

Also, on this show, Pastor Rick Warren was fawned over by Former Representative Kaisch (R-Ohio), got so syrupy between the two I had to heat up some waffles in the toaster oven. The last segment was all about Pastor Rick Warren's mega best seller "The Purpose Driven Life".

Brought up how the book has been used in three high profile criminal cases over the past few years. 1. Ashley Smith and Brian Nichols (did he not become a muslim, never mind, at least he is a purpose driven mulsim) 2. Amber Frey and Scott Peterson ( Pastor Rick Warren stated that Mr. Peterson may have received his copy to late, my blood presuure rose 50 points upon hearing that) 3. Dave Hollaway gabe the Kalpoe brothers a copy (wow, lot of good it has done). There was no mention of The Bible from Pastor Rick Warren.

Oh, Jesus was mentioned once and God mentioned once, during the two segments Pastor Rick Warren appeared. Sigh ... No gospel message from Pastor Rick Warren. Whenever I see Franklin Graham or Jerry Falwell on a FNC show, they never fail to present a gospel message; but, I have never seen Pastor Rick Warren give one on TV.

I do not understand the total fasination with Pastor Rick Warren in many evangelical circles. I will admit Pastor Rick Warren looks sharp with his tinted blonde hair and goatee.

Maybe we, as Christians, need to spend less time with The Purpose Driven Church and The Purpose Driven Life and return to using our Bibles for how to worship God through church and our personal life.

So what? Should I therefore refuse to help the poor, or feed the hungry, etc etc, because God will soon take care of them as well. Should I therefore stop saving money for retirement? Should I tell my kids not to bother pursuing a college education? Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. We are stewards of the earth. Stewardship requires responsibility. Recycling, et al, is good stewardship. It displays respect and humility for God and His creation.
I've never once identified myself as a preterist. Just another "label, duck, and dodge" on your part.

There is no scripture whatsoever that would remotely suggest that taking care of the earth in a responsible manner is wrong.

I don't seek spiritual information from Business Week. I've heard Warran speak many times on the subject of the Gospel, and he's dead on.

I have no problem with you not liking his approach, methodology, etc. That's fine. I respect that. In fact, if anyone said that you are wrong not to like his approage or methodology, I'd be on your side defending you 100%. But to say he doesn't preach the Gospel is absolutely false.

    Do you recognize this gospel?

    QUOTE:
"Dear God, I want to know your purpose for my life. I don't want to base the rest of my life on wrong things. I want to take the first step in preparing for eternity by getting to know you. Jesus Christ, I don't understand how but as much as I know how I want to open up my life to you. Make yourself real to me. And use this series in my life to help me know what you made me for." Warren goes on to say: "Now if you've just prayed that prayer for the very first time I want to congratulate you. You've just become a part of the family of God."

    question:
can this "gospel" be found in scripture?

Eloi, was this prayer said after a message on Christ that presented the facts of his death and resurection? We need to know the context.

Eloi is context-lifting. Hence, Eloi's claimis without merit or objectivity.

    Fact:
23 million copies at approx $20.00 per copy. This isn't the Bible John. This is some guys self help opinion.(not the Gospel)

Never said it was the Gospel. I can't think of a person who says it is (except those who are RW naysayers. They say it's claimed to be the Gospel in order to support their own claim that it's a false Gospel).

Hold on there a second John. You said he preaches the Gospel, and I just gave you 23 million reasons why I believe he doesn't.PDL and PDC is his gospel, and it is another gospel.

You have proven my point exactly. Only RW naysayers are claiming that the books PDC and PDL are Gospel, thus giving them ammunition to point to them and say that he preaches another Gospel. That's a completely false analogy.

No one besides the RW naysayers make any such claim about PDL/PDC.

Well, I guess that some of Rick Warrens followers must be confused also. Take the case of Ashley Smith. When she was being held by murderer/ kidnapper Brian Nichols, she had a Bible and a copy of the purpose Driven Life. She chose to witness to him using the PDL book....well, she also gave a little crystal meth to take the "edge" off .....looks like she had her purpose clearly charted out. Anyway, after the media frenzy, emotion high that made so many Christians (RW followers) so giddy, and free promotion of RW's book on TV and radio because of the story, what was the final life changing outcome?

    quote:

Nichols will be arraigned May 17. The 33-year-old is accused of overpowering a deputy escorting him to his rape retrial on the morning of March 11, assaulting her and stealing her weapon, and then killing a judge, court reporter, and one deputy in and outside the Fulton County courthouse before fatally shooting a federal agent at his Buckhead home later that night.
Judge Fuller asked Nichols if he is satisfied with his counsel and the manner in which they are conducting his defense. Adams replied that he had talked with his client, and that Nichols was aware of his right to speak but preferred not to address the court. Howard objected, saying Nichols should have to respond to the question himself--even if it was done in the judge's chambers--but Fuller agreed that he would not make Nichols speak if he didn't want to.
Nichols, who reportedly recently converted to Islam while in jail, was dressed in a tan suit and occasionally spoke to his attorneys. His parents sat a couple of rows behind him, with Nichols' mother appearing to take copious notes during the hearing.

Makes me want to run right out and buy a copy of PDL for all my unsaved friends and loved ones.

I can see the Holy Spirit at work.

That's hardly a reason to condemn the whole, unless, of course, you've already chose to condemn the whole from the get go.

It appears that someone was confused John:

    quote:

SMITH: “We went to my room. And I asked him if I could read. He said, ‘What do you want to read?’ ‘Well, I have a book in my room.’ So I went and got it. I got my Bible. And I got a book called ‘The Purpose-Driven Life.’ I turned it to the chapter that I was on that day. It was Chapter 33. And I started to read the first paragraph of it. After I read it, he said, ‘Stop, will you read it again?’ I said, ‘Yeah. I'll read it again.’ So I read it again to him. It mentioned something about what you thought your purpose in life was. What were you -- what talents were you given? What gifts were you given to use? And I asked him what he thought. And he said, ‘I think it was to talk to people and tell them about you.’"

You see, Ashley made a significant choice that day between the Word of God and the words of Warren. Like millions of others who keep Bibles around the house for a second opinion, she chose to read to her captor from Warren’s book instead of God's Word.

Unless you're saying that any time someone decides to read something other than Scripture, that they're guilty of proporting a false Gospel, your claim fails.

I am saying that she obviously was clueless after reading the book, and then after Brain heard it, he became a Muslim.

Rom 10:17 So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Again, and again, and again, You've claimed that Warren doesn't preach the Gospel. None of what you've posted in this thread supports that at all. I, and many people, have, with our own ears, heard him preach the Gospel dead on, many times. That very fact refutes your claim that he doesn't.

That's all for me, I'm done with this topic. I'm sure you'll post a few more rants before you're done.
