Rythyms of certain distinctions DO cause a folowing of rythmic undulations of the body in response to those rythyms.

Certain body movements don't just suggest sexually explicit ideas to the onlooking, but they are actual movements involved in intercourse. These movements are a reaction to those rythyms. denial of this fatc means the denier has never seen "Soul Train"

Others who would deny the effects of rythym might be as simple a movement caused by the tapping of the foot going along with the rythym, but this would not be a negative example. Well, maybe when Mama says ,"Will you stop tapping your foot, it's driving me crazy!"

The other day I had recorded the sound of my work boots in the dryer. I played it for our teens. Was it any surprise when one girl stated,"That's hip-pop". Another young man started "dancing in his chair" to the "beat". Thye not knowing exactly the source were somewhat embarrassed when it was revealed to them what the "rythym" was.

So, g'head, deny rythym has an effect on the body and the flesh, then try to tell us all that the flesh is not at enmity with God and causes a negative trend in our spirit, Biblically speaking, that is!

Do you have biblical support for the argument that all flesh is at enmity with God?

Edited to clarify a quotation source only

The question was simple - does the Bible teach that rhythm based music weakens the spiritual side of man.

Does the Bible teach it, not an opinion?

The lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life are from what point of origin?

My opinion is the principle is taught in the Bible.

Dancing is according to rythym. Of course some types of dancing are not considered fleshly, but in our present day most dancing is FLESH!

NO rythmic music has ever caused me to have rythmic undulations that are actual movements involved in intercourse.

Therefore your theory has proven false. Please try again

And yes I have seen Soul Train, but only a few minutes of it. American Bandstand was more my style in the 70's

An evil heart. Not skin and bones. If it was from skin and bones, then we would be free from sin when we die.

All we need is some Bible teaching that rhythm based music weakens the spiritual aspect of man.

    Do we have it?

    "Rhythm-based music?"
What's an example of music that is not based on rhythm?

    It can't be proven.

First one would have to prove that music affects everyone the same. It does not.

Second, one would have to define just what "rhythm based" music is. When does it cross over from melody to rhythm? Isn't melody rhythmic?

Third, one would have to prove the Bible teaches this, it does not.

    One could argue this from

    psuedo-science
    human reasoning
    strained examples
    Greek philosophy

but not the word of God.

Salamander you are sounding somewhat gnostic.

You seem to be promoting the idea that flesh is evil which is a pagan idea, not Christian.

I heard that a lot in college about certain types of music stimulating sexual repsponses as if even if that were true that would make it wrong.

It might make a good argument that certain music was not always appropriate but even that would not make such music inherently evil.

I have had the privilege of worshiping with brothers and sisters of the 'African-American' (if I may use that term) persuasion.

They really do 'get into' their worship music but there was NOTHING sexual about it- as matter of fact I felt that their experience was more transparent and real than many 'traditional' services that I have attended.

That being said- I will repeat what I said on another thread in regards to music because it bears repeating- "We grow on Bible teaching, not music.

My philosophy- if you teach and preach the Word of God correctly and consistently, it will produce fruit every time."

Exactly right. It's not in the Bible.

Our heartbeat is a natural rhythm made by God. Without it, we're dead. 'Nuff said.

    Actually there is one.

Galatians 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

However "rhythm" is not condemned in the Scripture.

There are natural rhythms everywhere in creation and the universe as mentioned above.

Start with the lunar cycle, the annual cycle.
The flight of birds and insects depends upon the cycle of the flapping of their wings.
    Pulsar stars.
    etc, etc...

All of God's creation is "very good".

My personal opinion is that our evil hearts and minds supply the darkness that makes the essence of sin.

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Until we are made clean by the blood of Christ.

Titus 1:15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

Hmmm. I wonder how Herod responded to Herodious' daughter "undulating" in front of him? wasn't it "to the half of my kingdom!"

Did she, or didn't she dance to a rhythym?
