I recently visited St. Anne's Basilica near Quebec City, Quebec Canada.

Was surprised of the veneration give to her and also the statue of her holding baby Mary, both with crowns on their heads. Can any of the catholics or ex-catholics on here explain this as well as give information about her?

According to tradition (with a small "t"), Saint Anne was the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her husband's name was Joachim. This is found in the Protoevangelium of James, which is not given canonical status but is not ignored altogether either.

Mary had a mother and father who had names. So did Joseph. Back then people remembered such things.
