I thought that one of the big issues in Senator McCain's campaign is that he is against earmarks.

[/SIZE]ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 1 -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin employed a lobbying firm to secure almost $27 million in federal earmarks for a town of 6,700 residents while she was its mayor, according to an analysis by an independent government watchdog group.

The desperation of the left over Palin is comical.

Actually, those are facts but I guess you don't want to see them.

Alaska is king of earmarks yet that is where the reformer is from? You have to be kidding...?

30+ earmarks in her 2009 budget totaling close to $200 Million doesn't equal reform...

It's a matter of perspective and "facts" that matter.

If Palin, as a mayor and governor, did not line up her constituents for available federal funds, she would be guilty of gross incompetence. the resaponsibility for handing out those funds rests squarely with Congress, not the recipient.

The desperation of the left over this woman is truly astounding. They seem to expect everyone to be as frightened by an intelligent family oriented woman, adept at balancing career and family, as they are.

No, she would be viewed as a reformer and not a hypocrite...

    Wasn't the left behind Hillary?

Hillary is not a conservative and is held to a different standard.

The fear of the left is apparent right here on BB with over 20 threads started over this woman, mostly negative. KenH has started over a third of them.

Polar bears, wolves, her teen aged daughter, politically motivated "investigations" and now this ridiculous thread on earmarks all say one thing...

    Fear.

The left is deathly afraid of this woman.

Do you say the same thing about the plethora of anti-Obama threads in this forum?

So you do not mind millions of your tax dollars going to 'bridge to no where' projects if they go to a conservative politician? Hmmmmmmmm, interesting.

The whole country should be if she becomes vice president with a 72 year old president. Our nation's survival would be in jeopardy if she, unfortunately, becomes president.

And Obama earmarking 1 million to the hospital where his wife is an officer and then subsequently received a bump in salary to $300,000 is o.k.?

Curious that some Ron Paul supporters or former ones are criticizing Palin's state of Alaska for receiving earmarks when Paul was one of the kings of earmarks in the House.

Senator McCain has made a big deal about being against earmarks, then he goes and picks Sarah Palin for his running mate.

Exactly how much did she earmark?

There is a bit of a difference between being the Governor of a State and accepting back some of the money that your State sent to Washington...

...and being the guy handing out Federal money (somebody else's money) to your buddies .

Like the $1,000,000 that Obama earmarked for his wife's hospital. Interestingly enough she received a huge pay increase to $300,000 at the same time.

I don't have necessarily have a problem with earmarks. John McCain is the one who says he does. Maybe he can talk to Sarah Palin about it.

Did you see the link I posted with her 2009 budget? She was asking for $200 million which someone computed as $800 per person in Alaska vs $34 per person in the next highest state.
