"For what we are about to receive may the lord make us truly grateful".Please help.

Praying for the food is a biblical as noted in I Timothy 4:4. ;) As to the content of prayer, for me it is different every time. I just pray the words that come to mind at the time. I haven't said a rote prayer since I was a kid..."Now I lay me down to sleep..." Just ask God to give you words each time you sit down for a meal. [IMG]

As to a Christmas theme, you can always pray to get what you asked Santa for... :D

    Rub-a-dub-dub, thanks for the grub.
    In Jesus name, dig in.
    :D

MANY folks, dear Aussie friend, have trouble with praying in a public setting (like in front of a mob - btw, isn't that like a bunch of kangaroos??). Don't be embarrassed by that.

My advice? Write it out. Read prayers, devotions (like Our Daily Bread) and formulate your own prayers. It helps trigger your mind and keeps you from the dreaded FIM disease (foot in mouth).

My husband has always thanked God for something specific in the day and for the love of those at the table. And we ask the Lord to bless the food to HIS use through our bodies.

Bless the Lord, O My soul, and all that is within me.

A prayer to be said after you eat.

Don't make the prayer too long, the food will get cold and the children will get restless.

    G'Day Mate,
When in trouble about how to pray, the words and all, seek the psalms....There is always a verse or two that will fit any grace.

We bless You Lord for Your provisions, and ask You to bless the hands of the preparer, those who partake, and in all things, we give You thanks. Amen

    Just a thought,

    Cheers mate,

    Jim

:D When I say any prayer I try to make sure it does not have the same words in it all the time. I don't want to sound like I have become complaciant' kind of like Catholic Mass. I always wonder if they are really thinking about what they are saying or just repeating it over and over with not too much feelings.
Anyway I often wing it. I give HIM the praise and the glory, thank HIM and pray for HIS will. Meal time we thank HIM for providing us with the job to buy the food, a way to get the food, the ability to make it, and for it to be nourishing, and once in a while a bless the hands of who has prepared it. :D
    Love in Christ Angie
P.S. Don't memorize a prayer for meal time, just say what is in your heart. Nobody to impress!

What is nice is we always read a little bit of scripture. Then we all bow our heads for prayer.

Remember to give God all the Glory, honor, and Praise first. Thank Him for making a Way to have a relationship with Him. And that Way is Jesus. Thanking Him for your meal and all His blessings. Let His Spirit lead you in your prayer.

At Thankgiving we read from Psalms, and then we all go around the table saying exactly what we personaly are thankful for. We go clockwise, each taking a turn at praying. Even the children are included. There are a lot of us, but it is worth the wait, and is a tradition in our house.

    Pray from your heart.

"Bless this bunch as we munch our lunch". yummmmm

Once my mother was called on to say the blessing at a church dinner by the associate pastor who really was trying to disciple her in this area and she was petrified. I will never forget that prayer, even though it was very long ago. "Dear Lord, Thank (pause) us (pause) for our service. Amen." Then she and her friend ran to the restroom laughing and she wet herself!! I am glad she is a good sport! [IMG]

REally, I usually make a mental outline of about 3 things I want to say before I actually open my mouth. Aint it good that He really knows what we MEAN to say!?!
