Are you also sometimes troubled that you migh accidentally have done that? First of all I am not even clear what it means because there are different opinions about it. Once somebody meant to me that blaspheming the holy spirit is what the evangelicas do because they do not want to have anything to do with what the charismatics have, they reject these spiritual gifts from the Holy Spirit and this would mean that they all blaspheme the Holy Spirit.
And another option would be attributing things from the Holy Spirit to demons.
But the problem is that in our times we also have manifestations from the enemy and also false preachers. What happens if you for example see manifestations which do not seem to you as if they could be from God, for example christians jump around and behaving like animals, and then you say that this is not from God but you were wrong then you had attributed something from the Holy Spirit to the enemy and by doing this you had blasphemed the Holy Spirit! This is really scary. What if I have accidentally or frivolously done this and am not even aware of it? I mean I cannot remember everything I have ever said. What if I ever talked about such phenomena with somebody and said something which blasphemed the holy spirit?
What if I'm doomed and don't even know i? :(

But on the other hand this opens doors to false preachers because they can do whatever they want and christians are too scared to say anything because they fear that they might be wrong and blaspheme the holy spirit this way, this leads to total control of all those insecure christians, like me. Because then I'm so scared that I rather do not say anything at all.
    Is this a solution?

The question is can a christian unintentionally do this sin because if this is possible that you blaspheme the holy spirit buy making a wrong judgement or simply saying something about a manifestation which is wrong then no christian can even feel safe because he could lose his salvation by saying 1 sentence. 1 wrong sentence would be enough to be forever doomed. :(

Can you have done this and be eternally doomed and not even know it? Is it so easy to do this? Then you only have to be careless 1 time and say something unmindful and that's it?
Can a christian get lost so easily?

Just an example: Let's say you talk about the Toronto blessing or any other church where there's stuff going on and somebody says that something strange is going on there and that people are making animal noises and behaving like animals and then you say:
"I cannot imagine this is from God."
But you are wrong and it is from God then you already had committed the sin against the holy spirit.

    xdisciplex,

As far as worring about what you say about false preachers. Don't worry read......
    Matt 7:16-20
Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Look at the fruit these churchs, preachers ect are putting forth the ask the Holy Spirit help you discern. [IMG]

I know this quote. Many christians use it.
I think Billy Graham came up with this but who guarantees that this is right? What if you can also unintentionally do it? :(

Is calling someone a false preacher the same as what the pharisees did with Jesus?
I called Creflo Dollar a false preacher because he teaches this "little gods" stuff and also said that Jesus did not come perfect but he grew into perfection!
This was blasphemy in my opinion. But what if I was wrong and called Creflo a false preacher does this mean that I blasphemed the holy spirit? :(

blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is saying that Jesus is not God, is not the Son of God come in the flesh. this would be a conscious denial, not something you "might do accidentally". calling a pastor a false teacher is not blasphemy.

1 John 4:2,3 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

however; if someone teaches and believes that Jesus is not God come in the flesh, and you are sitting under that person, you are placing yourself under the anti-messiah spirit and endangering your own spiritual welfare.

We need to avoid seeing scripture as a bunch of one-liners.

Jesus was clear that He would not cast out anyone seeking Him. There can be no one sin which is so bad that it could not be forgiven if the individual was truly repentent.

These "unforgivable sin" passages are eschatologic in nature. Jesus is bringing in the Kingdom of God. The Jews in essence were denying God's once and for all saving work which Jesus was to accomplish. They were denying the power of God to save and the power of His Spirit to preserve believers. Thus there is no way for them to be forgiven because they have denied God.

</font>[/QUOTE]You can't. What Jesus is talking about is a fundamental and conscious repudiatory breach of the Christian's relationship with Him.

The person who blasphemed the Holy Spirit, in my opinion, would not even have God in his consience adn woldn't be trobled in the least about religious and spiritual matters.

As Matt says, "if you are worried about it, you haven't done it..."

If you are troubled about it, then do something about it right now.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Criticism of the likes of Creflo Dollar is not blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, unless Creflo has become the Holy Spirit. Don't think I got the memo on that one!

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption . Eph. 4:30.

Conscience is the voice of God, heard amid the conflict of human passions; when it is resisted, the Spirit of God is grieved.

Men have the power to quench the Spirit of God; the power of choosing is left with them. They are allowed freedom of action. They may be obedient through the name and grace of our Redeemer, or they may be disobedient, and realize the consequences.

The sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit does not lie in any sudden word or deed; it is the firm, determined resistance of truth and evidence.

It is not that God sends out a decree that man shall not be saved. He does not throw a darkness before the eyes which cannot be penetrated. But man at first resists a motion of the Spirit of God, and, having once resisted, it is less difficult to do so the second time, less the third, and far less the fourth. Then comes the harvest to be reaped from the seed of unbelief and resistance.

On the other hand, every ray of light cherished will yield a harvest of light. Temptation once resisted will give power to more firmly resist the second time; every new victory gained over self will smooth the way for higher and nobler triumphs. Every victory is a seed sown to eternal life.

God destroys no one. The sinner destroys himself by his own impenitence.

Well actually refusing to hear when God's Servants speak is part of resisting the Holy Spirit.

But if the person speaking is not sent from God in the first place, then that doesnt apply.

God's people refused to listen to His prophets and they grieved away the Holy Spirit by doing so, till finally they went so far as to nail God's Son to a cross because of their complete blindness from resisting, resisting, resisting the light for so long.

    Hi!
But somehow this doesn't fit. They pharisees did this sin but in spite of this they were very interested in religious things and I bet they were also still interested in Yahwe.

One commentary said the sin against the holy spirit is simply attributing a work which is from the holy spirit to the devil!

If this is correct then this sin can be committed much easier than expected even by christians. all you have to do is say something about a manifestation and falsely attribute something to satan which was from god. but this would mean that when you're confronted with manifestations you better say nothing even if they are weird because if you should be wrong then you might have sinned against the holy spirit. but this means that christians are more or less defenseless because false prophets can threaten them with this.

I do not believe it is possible for a true believer to blaspheme.

If one is worried that he may have blasphemed, thus must not be saved, then ask yourself:

Am I at this moment trusting Christ and His finished work for my salvation?
Do I seek to be obedient to His will?
Do I have a thirst for the Word?
Do I seek fellowship with other believers?
Do I have a desire to share the gospel with others?

A blasphemer will not ask those questions, nor have any desire to do so.
