Do you think people are as serious and subdued as they should be these days. It seems that there is an overwhelming majority that think everything in life needs to be light and airy all of the time. You watch talk shows and the way the hosts try so hard to joke and laugh at everything that is said kind of turns me off at times. The news shows have to have it, too, especially the morning crews. The politicians have to make the talk show rounds to prove they can act a fool. The churches want a pastor that can a tell a good joke, every Sunday in some instances. Don't get me wrong I enjoy a good laugh just as much as the next guy, but everything has a time and place and I think humor is better when it is natural and not forced. Maybe it all started when "smile" became the catchphrase before a picture was taken. You never see people smiling in old pictures. Or "smile, Jesus loves you!" Jesus loves me whether I'm smiling or not and sometimes I just don't feel like smiling. Doesn't mean anythings wrong with that or me. What are your thoughts?

Sounds like you may have a case of the blahs.

    Just smile. :) LOL

    Upside down and inside out
    Upside down and inside out

When - you are feeling so down
    your whole world looks grey
    and the rain comes `round
Then - just like a little white dove
    you fly away
    There`s a rainbow waiting above

    Chorus:
    Upside down and inside out
Let all of your worries come undone
    Upside down and inside out
and soon we`ll be dancing in the sun

So - you think you`ve lost everything
    seems like no one cares
    and the birds won`t sing
Go - so far above the ground
    Soar through the air
You can turn that frown upside down

    Chorus:
    Upside down and inside out
Let all of your worries come undone
    Upside down and inside out
and soon we`ll be dancing in the sun

    Soon you will see
    everything is so different
from way up in the sky
This is where you can be
    so strong and free
    while you fly high

    Chorus:
    Upside down and inside out
Let all of your worries come undone
    Upside down and inside out
and soon we`ll be dancing in the sun

Please don't insult me with your psychoanalysis. Nothing I said in my OP suggested that I am depressed or have the blahs. I'm an up person. Address the OP or don't post again. Thanks

Me thinks thou dost protest too much. Please stop wearing your feelings on your sleeve. There was nothing wrong with my post.

The Holy Spirit (which we are to be filled with) does not take offense...

Sounds to me like somebody has a case of the Mondays. :wavey:

I think people are the exact opposite. I think we, in general, as a society, are far more uptight than we need to be.

There's a reason for this. If Jay Leno acts like a sourpuss, nobody would watch.

Yes, it is such a terrible thing when people smile. How awful of them to do that. The old days when nobody smiled were much better than now.

Everything in the OP suggests the exact opposite of being an "up" person.

Good grief. Whatever, dude. Lighten up.

    Now that was classy.

Guess I'll whistle Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy" all day today...just because I can.

Good grief! Sad to see a serious conversation about seriousness become a conversation about me. I guess the posts are proving my points about the matter. Thanks guys.

Right. Because the one thing we associate rbell with is seriousness.

Hardly. I just think you have a case of the Mondays. ;)

That's fine. Now try to contribute something bright and productive to the thread, if that's possible.

Well Cutter, based on most of the replies to your OP, I would surmise that there is an aweful lot of deep-seated anger that tries to masquerade itself in "feel-goodism".

Basically I say this because there seems to be a lot of condemnation of stuff that you didn't say, but somebody felt guilty about.

For what it's worth, I agree with your post.

I think this says it all, and much of the "humor"(??) today is "make work"!

I think this post is in bad taste, and I'm not kidding, I am serious, as per your request.

Are you always this mean and hateful?
Maybe what you need is to laugh some more.

Yes, Donna! I'm always this mean and hateful. Maybe since you are a woman and you picked up on this, you should flee to the womens forums so that your delicate feelings are not hurt by someone as mean and hateful as me!

The old timers that had pictures taken had lost all their teeth by the time they were thirty. That's why they did not smile. [IMG]

However I do know what you mean. It seems that our society relishes levity. A message of sobriety for repentance does not get the crowds in anymore. A message of levity and frivolity will fill stadiums.

I'll say one thing. Making misogynistic posts is not funny at all. Mission accomplished.

Yes I did but I think that he was responding more to DonnA than women in general. I must say though you are not far from right.
