Other than Geocities, anyone know of good simple sites where our church can build a page with a little bit of ooomph and our own domain name?

Depends how much space/resources you require and how much you're looking to pay. I don't know about too many domain registrars, but mine's registered at 000domains.com for about $13/year and I've never had any problems. As for hosting, a friend hosts mine for free, so I'm not sure, but you might find a visit to Web Hosting Talk helpful [IMG]

    TomVols,

I looked around and decided to go with the Homestead service ( http://www.homestead.com/ ). While it isn't free, you can do a free trial to decide if you want to pay for their service. The reason I decided to go ahead and pay for their Gold service (about $200 a year) is that there Sitebuilder software was extremely user-friendly and that they include help promoting your site with several of the major search engines (such as Google - the cost of submission is included in the Homestead price). The software was so easy to learn and use that I was able to get a basic website for our church up and running in a few hours of spare time. Although I still have a lot I want to do with it, you can check out the results so far at http://www.immanuelhomepage.org/Index.html .
