So I pulled up Hyles-Anderson's website moments ago...

...and in the lower left-hand corner there was (as usual) a quote from Jack Hyles. Only this one really caught my eye (I copied & pasted this verbatim):

“On the essentials, unity. On the nonessentials, liberty. In everything, charity.”
    -Dr. Jack Hyles

How clueless does whoever placed this quote on their website takes us to be? Or how clueless is that person if he/she really believes that this quotation is original to Jack Hyles?

This is arguably one of the most famous quotations of all time, and to the best of my knowledge it is universally attributed to Augustine, who made the statement circa 400 A.D.!

    Talk about flagrant plagiarism!

    Bro. Larry,

Do you intend for this to be a "let's beat up on the dead preacher" thread? Or a "let's beat up on HAC" thread?

Both have been done! It is old, trite, and has been downright NON-Christian in the past!

I just wanted to know. Because "I fer one ani'ta, gonna be precipitating!"

    FYI!

    Rhet,

My post has absolutely nothing against Jack Hyles. Obviously, I don't believe this quote was placed on the website with his endorsement. =)

My point is that I hope that we (Fundamental Baptists) aren't gullible enough to take these kind of things at face value. Sadly, I see this kind of thing in our fundy circles all too often though- wild, spurious mis-statements, that go unchallenged & get unquestionably accepted by the flock.

What's next? Will HAC post the lyrics to Amazing Grace, and attribute those to Jack Hyles?

Language Cop will not let this one pass, without comment. ( Although he does think you 'meant' "ain'ta", instead of the typo, "ani'ta".)

"Precipitating" is exactly what you are doing! Definition of "precipitating" is "raining".
    And you are definitely-

Nothing ceases to amaze me about the mentality in Hammond. Nothing. And yes that is worthy of posting here. If my alma mater had a similar embarassing blunder on our website I'd like it brought to light in order to correct the error. But then again, this particular school believes every quote of any value in the past millenuium is attributed to Ole Jack.

If I went to the same website as the OP did, then somebody has fixed it and removed the quote.

No, it's still there as of just moments ago. It's one of many among a rotation of quotes. To change them, keep hitting your "refresh" button. I just had to hit refresh about 30 times to see it again, but it came up today, just as it did yesterday. In fact, I did a screen print of it for posterity.

It must be a slow posting time if we are back to discussing HAC and its founder

And I thought I was the only one to really notice this, too!

'Course, when there's nothing really going on, one good way to 'draw a crowd' is to 'raise the dead'!
