In this thread I am asking Winman,RAdam,Cutter and any others some questions. Each of you may differ in your responses. (I didn't want to use the term KJVO in my heading.)

Do you hold the Textus Receptus to the same level of respect as the KJV's? Or, do you simply stick with the KJV and not wish to deal with its textual basis?

For those of you who regard the TR very highly as The only correct textual basis of the correct translation -- that of the KJV's --Which TR enjoys that seat of honor? Do you side with the Elzevir edition of 1633 or the Stephanus of 1550? Or do you favor another one like the Complutensian?

Whichever TR you go with -- does it have textual perfection in your opinion?

How do you account for the occasions in which the KJV doesn't go with the TR reading?

Public Warning to Rippon: We do not allow you to call people who are KJVonly derogatory names like "Queries". I know, you spelled it wrong, but we all know what you meant.

    For shame.

What are you talkin' bout Willis? I had no sinister motive. Queries means questions. I had absolutely nothing in mind that you claim. (Unless you're joking. But the red lettering removes that thought.)

Now back to our regular programming.

    He was kidding. Geez.

And good luck getting an answer. I've been unsuccessful as many others have.

Well, you are not going to like my answer, but I don't worry about this stuff anymore. Years ago I read many good books on this matter that went into great detail, including the issues you are asking about. But now I can't even remember the names of the books. I am being sincere, this was over 30 years ago.

But my conviction that the KJV is the preserved, inerrant, and infallible word of God is not based on these books anyway.

I will keep saying what I have said before, I cannot prove through scholarship that the KJV is the preserved word of God, I believe that by faith. I simply believe that God promised to preserve his inerrant word to all generations.

Now, accepting that by faith, my personal question became which version is the preserved and inerrant word of God. And through examining and contrasting the KJV against other versions, and also the evidence of history, I came to believe the KJV was the preserved version in English.

You just don't get it, I don't care if you read books on the subject from now till the day you die, you will never resolve this question through scholarship. Whether you like it or not, you will be forced to either believe God's promise to preserve his word or not.

But if you want to keep spinning your wheels, that's your decision.

What a profound statement, that I believe wraps up the entire argument in a nutshell. Those who believe the KJV to be the inspired, inerrant, infallible Word of God do so by faith. "The just shall live by faith", not only in Christ, but in what they hold in their possession to be God's Holy Word.

I was confused as well. When a moderator/admin writes "public warning", I assume he's serious.

Rippon asked a question, containing no insults against the KJVO, and the 1st response was by a moderator (and anti-KJVO) insulting the KJVO's. This same moderator will close this thread due to insults being hurled.

Dr. Bob, why are you provoking bad behavior? I thought you were going to be nicer.

That's what I have said all along. Being KJVO is a personal conviction. Having that personal conviction is prefectly fine and I readily accept that. However, when anyone tries to take that personal conviction and apply it upon others, or takes it and begins to tear down God's word by attacking other translations, it become a doctrine that is man-made.

I don't look at anyone who holds to KJVO as any better or wrose than me and I expect the same from them. When I am denied that coutesy I seldom stand by and let it just happen (must be the Irish and Cherokee in me).

[EDIT] Oh, and Amy, Dr.Bob is being nice. He did not hurl a single insult at KJVO. He was ribbing Rippon about his word choice in the thread title.

Yes he did. Read it again.

He said "KJV only". Who else could he be referring to?

It's play on the title of the thread. Rippon spelled it correctly, but Dr.Bob was messing with him. The joke wasn't great, but Dr.Bob has a deep weakness for bad puns.

Okay Folks -- Time To Return To The Subject

These are honest questions. Please try to answer them. There has been too much side-tracking on lesser matters.

Hey, hey - I even put a "kewl" face at the bottom so anyone could see I was just teasing on the "Querie" word-play.

Amazed at the response. Already typed with Rippon to be sure he understood.

Rippon's questions WERE legit and just prove again the paucity of logic and unbiblical thinking of those he asked.

And unanswered except by Win who simply admitted his faith that the KJV (he didn't mention which one) was "the preserved, inerrant, and infallible word of God" could not be proven. I accept that. That is his right.

As long as he doesn't attack God ACTUAL words or other English translations that may not be word-for-word the same as his and call the derogatory names, we all have "soul liberty" to believe what we want.

Yeah, Dr. Bob and I are buds now. But Dr. Bob, please don't use red lettering and the "Public Warning" terminology when you are kidding. Use it only when you are serious.

Now, again, let's get back to the subject of the thread.

Winman, what is your opinion of the TR?
