A UNIVERSITY Christian Union has been suspended and had its bank account frozen after refusing to open its membership to people of all religions.

The Christian Union, an evangelical student organisation, has instructed lawyers and is threatening court proceedings against the Birmingham Guild of Students.

I hope this nonsense doesn't spread across the Atlantic (but it probably already has).

While the group does have a right to determine their own membership, I would think that Christian groups would love non-Christians or gays and lesbians to join them and hear the gospel.

Assuming that the christian union's purpose is to spread the gospel. Maybe they just want to pursue common intrest the way other groups do.

In the article, a concern is that only members are allowed to vote. They don't want non-Christians in charge of the organization.

2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
2 Corinthians 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

Many apply this verse to marriage only, and not to other aspects of everyday life. I believe it would apply to our christian schools, colleges, and churches as well.

Paul told the Corinthian church to put the one committing fornication out from amongst them in 1 Corinthians 5.

Remember, Evil communications corrupt good manners.

Where did the funds which were frozen come from? If they came from student activity fees which all students are required to pay, then they have no business refusing any interested student membership.

If they are purely private and privately funded, can the University freeze their funds?

Perhaps the Christian Union should do the same thing that is being done to them -- attempt to join and be elected as leaders in other groups, then take action to close the other groups when rebuffed. Then take the lack of action to the media!

You're supposing that they would not be allowed to join, but there is no evidence of that.

Whether or not they are elected as leaders is a different matter. If they join solely to disrupt, they are acting on bad faith. Is that the kind of Christians you'd want representing you?

</font>[/QUOTE]You know! I got to thinking!

Here we are as "Good Ole Americans" sqawkin' and squeelin" about closing our borders to foreigners!

'bout time we Christians---those who have been washed--sanctified---set aside--in all four corners of the Earth close our "spiritual" borders to nothing but Jesus' doctrine!!

Now---Jesus' doctrine is all of love---I know we're gonna hear that---"Well, Preacher! How can you close sprititual borders---when God's love is open!!??"

Jesus' doctrine is also all of truth---the great "I am . . . the truth" seals the borders!!

This is exactly the stated intent of the non-Christians. I read too much, and can't remember where I saw that, but I will look and post the link, if I find it.

Should Christians act like them or convert them by example to proper ways?

I hate when that happens. What's worse, though, is when I finally do find it and it doesn't say what I remembered it as saying (that happens a little too often for me to be comfortable with relying solely on my own memory).

I presume the money belongs to members of the Christian Union. I can only assume the Guild of Students has hitherto been used in providing banking facilities somehow, and I expect that is what the legal action surrounds.

Tufts shuts out Christian group -- Religious club de-funded in secret meeting because it wouldn't accept lesbian leader

Tufts Christian Fellowship was stripped of its official "student organization" status in a secret, midnight meeting because the group would not allow an admitted homosexual to hold a leadership position.

University rejects Christian student group --Association can't exclude homosexuals, non-believers as members

A state university in California refuses to recognize a Christian student organization because it requires members to live according to the group's religious faith.

University cuts off--Refuses to sign anti-discrimination clause, wants only members who share same faith

The Chapel Hill school has removed official recognition of Alpha Iota Omega, a Christian fraternity, because its officers have refused to sign an anti-discrimination clause on a university application that would have required the group to accept any student as a member, regardless of religion.

I was wrong: This nonsense ALREADY has spread across the Atlantic.
