Never ever discipline your children when you are angry. The cursing speaks volumes as to this man's disposition.

    Alternatives:
Take the computer away for a long time.
    Deny privileges.
    Extra work around the house.

I used to spank my son but from the age of ten on I realized that I was doing nothing but making him madder and in the process I was getting madder too. A couple of times I came close to yanking him up and...... Now, I've learned to remain calm, cool, and collected and to take my time in coming up with an effective discipline. Several times the city hasn't had to weed it the 100yd ditch next to my house courtesy of my son.

That was not a spanking. He (or was it his wife who said it?) said something about getting a beating. That's WAY different than a swat on the butt with a hand. He was out of control and angry and I think he SHOULD be under fire for it.

So let me ask. Do you believe that the command in Proverbs that the Lord gives is wrong since it says beat them with a rod and if you look that word up for rod it is a club across the back not the bottom?

Also there is no evidence that the child was injured by this man and my guess is she got the point of her thefts.

So let me ask. Do you believe the command in Ephesians 4:29 ("Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers."), which this man was clearly in violation of?

You don't think this child was injured emotionally when her father told her that he would beat her with a belt across her face?

This guy is the scum of the earth. He didn't lovingly chastise his child. He beat her viciously, emotionally and mentally abused her, and blasphemed the name of God while he did it.

I'm all for spanking your kids. I have been known to use a belt at times. Before I punish though I make sure that I am in a proper state of mind and not out of control. This guy was out of control.

This was an assault: way, way over the line of normal corporal discipline. He should be fired as a judge and be prosecuted for assault, battery and threatening violence.

I find it interesting that the very same people who blame the parents for not disciplining their children when the child goes bad cry against a parent who does discipline their child to keep them from going bad. What hypocrisy!
This girl was not harmed! She doesn't even claim that she was medically harmed in any way. She simply got a serious whipping. She knew she was doing wrong and prepared a video because she knew discipline was coming. This is/was an out of control teen and her father was seeking to correct her actions. Others might not follow his exact way of handling it but what he did does not call for criminal charges or being fired from his job. Those calls come from liberal socialist dictator type mind-sets who want to run other peoples lives.

The only reason that some are against this is because of liberal culture and mid-sets. 100 years ago this kind of punishment would have been nothing and even applauded. In fact biblically this IS nothing! The bible calls for a rod (club) on the back and says to beat them you will not kill them but save them. My guess is that her thieving days ended because of the punishment. The sad thing is she is still in rebellion and her mother is supporting her. There should be no criminal investigation over this.
I have for years called for horse whipping many of these young thugs as well as adults who come before the courts, especially on first offenses, instead of putting them in jail or prison. It would solve many problems.

[SIZE=+0]Now I am not saying that I do not see a problem here. The father and mother both did not give the discipline out of love, but out of anger, but that does not constitute child abuse, just poor parenting skills. The father may very well be a control freak and a jerk, I don't know, but the type of discipline was not over the top as this child clearly willfully disobeyed and became a thief. She was thumbing her nose at the parents rules as well as the law. The problem is not with the discipline but with how it was done and my guess is, unfortunately, everything was done that way in that home, but again it is not a criminal case!

I see you're from Texas too. Is this kind of barbaric sadism endemic there, then?

Who are these people that you speak of? Where are they? Please point them out. If you are unable to specifically point them out then you are guilty of a lie.

Oh, I have a feeling you know. I have a feeling that you live the life of this father every day.

I agree. This was NOT "discipline" in any way. It's abuse.

The truth is that the girl and mother both need a good whipping for the stunt they are pulling now. What took place was not criminal, but very few people today stand with God on disciplin. Spare the Rod spoil the child. This child is spoiled and the mother is helping that. This all started because of taking her car away, cutting off her cell phone, forcing her to get a real job to support herself by the father. The child is irresponsible and now she is seeking revenge.

In what sick, twisted universe does a vicious beating with a belt and board, coupled with serious verbal abuse, on the legs and face of a disabled young woman constitute 'discipline'? And this is a man who presides over family law case involving child abuse??!!! Yeah, well, he should know all about that! Give me strength...

You have a very, very, very perverse view of 'discipline', Freeatlast. If that's 'standing with God on discipline' then your view of God is similarly sick and messed-up.

First off this woman is not disabled. The Lord calls for more then this child got, but the liberals today stand against the Lord in all he calls for. This man did the right thing. He could have done it better, but his actions were not wrong. He gets a two thumbs up.:thumbsup: The sad thing is the mother who needs the same for her leading her child astray in all this.

First, she is a young woman....definitely old enough to know that what she was doing was wrong. She'd been corrected for it previously and received discipline for it.

Second, she knew she was in trouble enough that she started her video camera to capture her punishment. This shows premeditation on her part to go after her father.

Third, she was never struck on the face only the legs and back and behind. Her father threatened to hit her face if she did not comply and lie on her stomach to accept her punishment.

Fourth, more parents today need to learn the difference between punishment and discipline and learn that discipline should never be given when angry. This father was angry (probably deservedly so since his daughter chose to deliberately ignore and disobey him)

Finally, and in my opinion, this young woman was too old for her father to be spanking her, period. Spanking is something you do to a child for correction and should be used for grievous offenses. I do not, however, think he should be prosecuted (unless the daughter is also prosecuted for her crime of theft) and the mother is prosecuted (as she took part also). Looks more to me like the whole family needs some counseling as well as some anger management and a little community service.

Another part of the story- apparently she released this video to get even with her father for cutting off financial support and taking away her Mercedes...

It all stems from poor parenting.

    She has cerebral palsy.
    No He does not!
This has nothing to do with liberal -v- conservative, but has to do with civilised -v- barbaric behaviour. Don't try to drag your culture wars into this; it's a red herring.
I'm sickend and horrified to see a so-called Christian endorsing criminal assault
And now you're inciting domestic violence. Way to go...

You should be horrified at any suggesting that the discipline was wrong. The Lord calls for a rod (club) to the back. This girl was not and is not disabled. No matter the discipline was justified. In our culture she was a little old for it but in this family she was not. The truth is she still needs more as she is showing a total disrespect for authority then and now and her mother should be next in line for the rod.

In your warped, deluded mind, perhaps...

Look, if you want to live under your own weird version of sharia law, be my guest and push off to Iran or Saudi.

No I just choose the bible. Spare the rod and you spoil the child. This man did what he should have although he went about it incorrectly.
