This needs to be mentioned periodically.
I thought about mentioning it
name these tunes*
If you try to drive I'll tax the street, if you
try to walk I'll tax your feet......
I was alone I took a ride didn't know what I
would find there....
but if you talk about destruction don't ya know
that you can count me out
all the lonely people where do they all come from
and in the end the love you take is equal to the
the love you make.
Pick up a set of headphones and listen from Because through Her Majesty on Abbey Road. It's absolutely the best bit of music in recorded rock history.
Debatable, but I dont want to relive my mispent youth.
Why should the devil have all the good music ( Cliff Richard )
I listen to a lot of Paul Wilbur at the moment.
Yeah, but can you support that scripturally?
The Bible seems to reccomend the Beatles
Lev 11:22 "Even of these you may partake, - the Beatles"
I'ld back ONE Knopfler, Clapton, Page, May, etc solo against the entire Beatles collection Even ol' Keith & the Strolling Bones on a good day can take them
Then take the Clapton solo in While My Guitar Gently Weeps and say along with Travelsong that the Beatles are the greatest!!
No one can pack as many melodies, ideas and simply brilliant transitions into a single tiny space as the Beatles did.
See, they couldn't do much themselves so had to import REAL talent
How can someone with an email address of "midnight rider" (CLEARLY a reference to another great band--Allman Brothers) say such a thing about those danged Beatles?!?!
Seriously, I'd have to agree with your opinion about the specifics of their talents. But I'm one of the VERY few folks of "their" generation that wasn't completely blown away by them. Go figure.
My hubby saw them in concert though! And he said they were INDEED the Fab 4!
Music Ministry » The Beatles are the greatest rock n' roll band of all time.
"Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue with that; I'm right and I will be proved right. We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first - rock 'n' roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me." --John Lennon
I never claimed they were great men of God. They were great musicians.
Certainly Clapton and Duane Allman and their contemporaries were gifted virtuosos, but the Beatles pushed the limits of what could be done with music. Most artists are content to milk an idea or melody. But take a song like Happiness is a warm Gun you'll see 3 distinct, complete transitions withing 2 minutes and 40 seconds in just one perfectly cohesive song structure. That was the Beatles. Everything they did was top notch.
Yep. Even the media hype which preceded their rise to fame. Could it be they would have been nothing without it? Sorta like the Monkeys? (Both were appropriately named BTW)
Top notch .....junk. I reckon them to be right up there with a chunk of someone's discarded chewing gum stuck on your shoe.
In HIS service;
Media attention is irrelevant. The Beatles were the most innovative and gifted studio rock musicians ever. That's a fact Mr. 1611.
No, it is NOT a fact. It IS however your opinion of them, which I suppose you are entitled to.
They would have been nothing without the mainstream media hype and promotion of their junk.

Beatles. Hmmm. An insect which feeds on dung and decay.

Yep they definitely seemed gifted in blasphemy, and Alistair Crowley's philosophy of "Do what thou wilt," Crowley appeared as one of their admired figures on the sleeve of the Sgt Pepper's album. Lennon was antiChristian and ardently atheistic. Harrison, in his hideous ode "My Sweet Lord", deliberately altered the "Hallelujah" of the early segment to "Hare Krishna" near the end, thereby subverting the praise of the true God to become praise for a false Hindu deity.
I have to say I am honestly appalled that anyone who names the name of Christ would have anything good to say about the Beatles or their music.
