    I was quoting some one else about the New Deal. Yes, it was socialistic, but it probably saved us from a socialistic revolution that would have been much worse.

    By the late 1930, people were ceasing to blame themselves, and starting to blame the economic system. Rooseveldt played Bismark (the ultra-conservative Chancellor of Prussia who defeated the socialists by stealing some of their less-offensive programs)

    Good question. People were turning to the left and the right at the time. There was much sympathy for the Russian Revolution, and also for the Fascists. Hard to say which would have won out. Both were intrinsically socialistic, however.

    Loss of freedom, by ballot box. As in Germany.
