The first 100 days

It will depend on a lot of situtations... I will have to wait until the poll is closer to closing to make a real pick, but right now I would say between 55-65% favorable,

My concern for right now is his first 5 - 10 days. He will probably issue executive orders on fetal stem cell research and abortion in foriegn aid. :tear:

 

The major issues he faces are the war in Iraq and the economic crisis. He inherited both of these from his predecessor and there's no way of knowing how much worse they will get before they get better.

 

The best thing about the end of the first 100 days with Obama in the White House is that there will be only 1,361 more to go after that unless America makes the same mistake again!

 

How fair you are in your assessment is typical. At least allow the new president to be inaugurated and do something before condemning his actions, or is that too much to ask?

 

Yes, it is too much to ask! I don't care about being "fair" in a political sense - I care about the truth of what's best for the nation. Nothing about Obama's "change" message is worth allowing him some time to accomplish. I think we need to fight against most everything of significance the Obamanites want to do from the first day to the last day. I don't believe in compromise with those of such different philosophies. Such compromise would only put us one step closer to the next compromise. That's how the Republicans have drifted so far from their former platforms to be more like the Democrats. There's not nearly enough distinction between them. Closing the gap would be a fatal mistake. It's a dire struggle for the future of our nation and "getting along" is not the correct approach. Stalemate and inaction would be better than action in the wrong direction.

 

This pretty much sums up your feelings and your credibility as well.

The worse thing in your eyes would be for Obama to do what is best for the country and to succeed. If this were the case, you would have to reevaluate your dislike for the Democratic Party, and that is something you would never do. So you are correct when you say you don't care about being fair, in my opinion.

The good thing is that a vast majority of the country disagrees with you and will go on with or without your approval.

Are you a prophet? None of us know what the first 100 days will bring. Show him as much tolerance as you woud like others to show you.

 

Just a slightly different take on the first 100 days.

I wonder how the first 100 days would go, especially for believers, if we each committed to pray every single day for the new president. It might not change him, but I wonder how our attitudes and spirits might differ after the 100 days.

The First 100 Days is a traditional period of significance for a president. What an opportunity for us to do something tangible.

You know the answer to your question is in broad brush of Obama's plans as outlined in his campaign platform and during his numerous speeches. The "change" he kept talking about translates to "socialism, socialism, and more socialism".

 

I feel sorry for him. Today, after meeting with President Bush, he surely must realize that he just got elected to a Checkmate situation. I personally don't look for all those campaign promises to come to fruition and those who believed them will surely be disappointed. It's easy to boast about what one will do when one doesn't have all the inside info. I feel sorry for him and......for all of us, whether we voted for him or not. America is in a bad place right now.

 

Because he has such a high popularity rate already, and because he is generally perceived as the rescuer (trying not to use "saviour" or "messiah") of the US, it would take quite a fall for his numbers to be low. IIRC, President Clinton's approval ratings were pretty high, even during and after the Lewinsky scandal.

That was my long-winded way of saying I think his approval ratings will be fairly high.

I certainly agree with you. I suggest that we go beyond that. Let's dedicate ourselves to a re-birth of our nation. Let's put aside our differences and each one of use commit ourselves to making America the shining light on the hill once again in the world, that remarkable Camelot where everyone has the chance to make the most of their God-given abilities to achieve their potential and to strengthen the democracy. For God's sake (literally) let's come together as Americans again with a common purpose, freedom and opportunity for all liberals and conservatives alike.

Our Current Crisis

Folks, once again we're in a crisis. It's not a civil war but a financial crisis. It's an opportunity for America to once again step up to the task. As with people, nations are either broken by crises like this one or they are made much stronger. That happened to America in the Revolutionary War, WW1, the 1929 Crash, the Great Depression, WWII, the Cold War, the dot.com bubble crash, and now we face another crossroads of history.

Our patriotism is built on the foundation of memorable statements like the one in the Declaration of Independence.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

On the Statue of Liberty is inscribed:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

As I would characterize this in my '60's dialect, Let's Get it Together again. Not for the liberals or conservatives, not for the Democrats or Republicans but for all of us so that we can forge a 21st century version of Lincoln's memorable vision

that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.


I'm very serious about this call. This is especially true for Christian Americans. With the Cross in the lead and the American flag behind we can still make a tremendous difference in our world. Let's go for it!
