That instance--showing that Jesus doesn't just sit back and let anything and everything fly reminds me of something. We had vacation bible school last week--and a couple of the kids were uncontrollable ruffians. One was jumping up and shouting--sometimes swearing, throwing his songbook over the pews, and yelling "no" when people told him to sit down and behave.

One big guy told him in his "don't mess with me voice" to sit down, and the boy (about 9 years old) smacked the adult hard over the head with a Bible.

My friend told me later "I clocked you going up there at about 90 miles an hour." I sped up to where the boy was sitting, took firm hold of his shoulder and said, "you will sit down NOW! And that is the LAST time you will throw that book!" He looked at me and said "Hey, I was sitting there!" I said "Well, I am sitting here now. And you. Sit down. NOW." He tried to argue and I said, "One more word out of you, and you will go straight home without a treat."

Anyway, he backed down--I think he saw in my face that I would do exactly what I said, and he actually hung around me the rest of the week. I gave him a Hot Wheels car at the end of the week for the improvement in his behaviour. He asked me "how did I do?" and I hugged him and told him "you did great."

We don't have to let everything fly--and can still get angry without stepping over the line.

Mt 21:15b ...and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,
16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

I'm guessing the kid was Pentecostal??? Did he speak in tongues? Holy dance? :wavey:

Uh, well, LeBuick, "Hosanna" wasn't exactly in the vocabulary he was using...

He has actually improved from the first few times he'd been to Vacation Bible School--he and his brothers ran round and round the room, through one side door, into the basement, through the other side door, yelled like hyenas while zooming through the auditorium, then continued making laps until someone caught them. He actually got a swat on the seat the first time he came to Vacation Bible School he was so crazy--and then he sat nice as you please on said swatter's lap for the remainder of the week.

    Two thoughts:

I joined the BB specifically because I knew I would get different opinions here. You can find some excellent examples of disagreements without being disagreeable. Further, no one can get you upset if you won't let 'em.

Second, BJ is obviously hurting, and we should pray for him. But he shouldn't be cut any slack because of it when he deserves correction. And for the most part, the correction I've seen has been firm, but gentle.

    Tom,

I agree that he needs rebuke and correction. I guess my question is, when does this cease to be correction and become piling on?

Yep, must be Pentecostal, they can hold a lively service.

@Tom = He begs for it. He spits out these cries for help then attach the helper. Anyone know him from USENET? In that other forum, he said he spends a lot of time there.

I wish what other person is going to BJ's house and making him post here would quit. I could figure this out if I were not such an idiot.

I truly hope BJ finds some maturity and inner peace. He also needs to give up the idea of a Christian resource website until he gets his own issues put to rest.

    Magnetic Poles,

You said, "I could figure this out if I were not such an idiot."

Negative thought alert! Time for a counselling session.

Take deep breaths and say this to yourself over and over until you are cleansed of this negative thinking, "I am not an idiot. I am not an idiot. I am special and unique." Think happy, glad, and joyful thoughts. (Does anyone remember the positive-thinking tape the cheese-curl loving caterpillar was listening to in the Veggie Tales movie "Jonah"? Perhaps we should all get a copy  )

Joseph Botwinick has a valid point about piling on. Besides, no matter what you say, it is like pouring fresh clean water into a leaky bucket. There is nothing wrong with the water--just the bucket. No need to drive ourselves nuts, eh? :)
