I picked this one up last night for about $7.00 . It's a Roman Catholic Bible and comes with extra-cononical uninspired books . I haven't taken the time to investigate the notes . They are probably liberal . Those notes are sure extensive though . It's common for barely more than the actual text of a chapter to be spread out on two pages . I'll give my thoughts on selected quotes from the notes at a later time . For now I'll give some selected snippets . 1 Peter 4:15 : But let no one among you be made to suffer as a ... or as an intrigurer . 1 Peter 5:5 : -- be subject to the presbyters 1 Peter 4:4 : They are surprised that you do not plunge into the same swamp of profligacy , and they vilify you . 2 Peter 2:18 : For talking empty bombast . Jude 16 "utter bombast" In 1 John 2:2 ; 4:10 ; and Romans 3:25 "expiation" is used . Matthew 21:16 : Out of the mouths of infants and nurslings Matthew 22:12 : But he was reduced to silence In a number of places ( Matt. 26:71 ; Acts 2:22 etc. ) "Jesus the Nazorean" is used . Luke 14:2 : a man suffering from dropsy John 1:13 : who was born not by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a man's decision but of God . John 3:16 : For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son , so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life . John 17:5 : Now glorify me , Father , with you , with the glory that I had with you before the world began . Acts 17:11 : These Jews were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonia Romans 1:24 : Therefore , God handed them over to impurity through the lusts of their hearts for the mutual degradation of their bodies . Romans 3:3 : What if some were unfaithful ? Will their infidelity nullify the fidelity of God ? Romans 3:23 : all have sinned and are deprived of the glory of God . Romans 8:30 : And those he predestined he also called ; and those he called he also justified ; and those he justified he also glorified . Romans 9:16 : So it depends not on a person's will or exertion but upon God , who shows mercy . Romans 11:33 : Oh , the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God ! How inscrutable are his judgments and how unsearchable his ways ! Throughout the words "holy Spirit" are used . The word "holy" is not capitalized . I guess the translators figure it is an adjective not needing capitlization . The language is kind of flowery -- so those who are familiar with KJV phraselogy would be in the groove with this translation in that respect . Of course having the Vatican authorize it is not impressive to Protestants . I would say that for the most part the text maintains the orthodox-line on biblical teachings . It seems to be mildly dynamic -- a little more formally equivalent than the NIV . So it is more to the left on that scale where to the extreme left you will find interlinears . The NJB and the REB are more to the right keeping company with the NLTse . I'll have more observations at a later time . Meanwhile , if any of you own this particular translation , please weigh in with your opinions .
