I sure would be thrilled to meet a dyed-in-the-wool Calvinist who is fully convinced they are not Elect.

I have given up as it were. It seems the quickest way to earn Election is subscribing to Calvinism

No one "earns" election. It's a grace thing. I don't think you understand at all.

That would be interesting but I do not believe it will ever happen. I have never met a Calvinist who had any doubts about their being of the elect. There were not so sure about others, even other Calvinists. If you dare disagree with them on any jot and tiddle that convinces them you are not of the elect.

The real question is: How do they know for sure they are of the elect?
Some of them don't seem to have an answer for that.

Well considering in another tread he talked about how people were entitled to heaven its not surprising.

I do know of some people who were convinced at one point that they were not of the elect, but God's grace is amazing and they were granted faith and repentance and assurance of salvation. Glory to God.

I do believe that some of the early Puritan's questioned their election on occasions. It drove some of them to desperation. I question my own self sometimes, am I his or am I no. But then I know my salvation is not in myself but Christ is my salvation. Every thing he accomplished is put on my account. He kept the law fully because I am not able to keep it in it's entirety. His sinless life satisfied the law's demands. His death was the Just dying for the unjust like me. 1 Cor 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption.

You have been "asking" that for years.

Do you think every Christian is elect or not? 1) yes or 2) no

Obviously not every person who thinks they are a "Christian" is not a Christian and will be more than just sorry come the Judgment Day.

If a person is simply relying on a concept that they are "one of the elect" and can't point to any other valid reason then they are deceived.

What is their basis for saying: "I am one of the elect"? Because their parents told them so? They are deceived.

Even Calvin taught that circumcision took the place of baptism.
Thus through baptism one entered into the covenant. If that is what one is relying on to be one of the elect then that person is deceived.

Thus the all important question arises: How do you know you are one of the elect?
I haven't been asking it for years; only for a couple of months now, and have received very little response from Calvinists. It seems they are very reluctant to give their testimony. I have noticed throughout the years that some don't seem to have much of a testimony of salvation at all. That is sad.

    Brother,

I am not a Calvinist, but I do believe in all five points of the doctrines of grace. I have doubted my salvation on occasion as the Lord reveals to me the depravity of my flesh, but I take solace in the fact that I believe that only the regenerate can actually see their sin and need for a savior, which in fact I believe is a sign of being elect, as the Publican pleaded, "Lord have mercy on me a sinner" as opposed to the Pharisee who cited in his prayer all he had done for the Lord (tithing, etc.)

None of the OT saints were regenerated and they understood their sin and need for God's promised Savior.

Really? Evangelism Explosion - one of the largest personal evangelism programs ever - was started in at Coral Ridge Presbyterian. Pretty sure they were Calvinistic. Our own denomination (PCA) is very evangelistic and missions minded.

In churches that look for a one time decision. .....they go real big on the anecdotal testimony so some focus there...not really grasping the converted life.....

Do you think one's testimony of salvation is purely anecdotal?

I can give you my testimony....but are you going to believe it?

Sometimes when God draws a person there are way to many factors that contribute to it.... Sometimes the person knows that they prayed or knew God had worked in them and things had \changed but might not always understand what happened and when.

What is more important is when God actually moves upon a soul...Jesus said it was like the wind....you see the effects of it, but the work is supernatural and unseen with the physical eye.

    Brother DHK,

You need to keep in mind that not everyone that has a "personal testimony" or confesses Jesus as their Lord are indeed born again. "22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity" (Matthew 7:22-23)
