Yes, before 1979 we had folks like Herschel Hobbs, R. G. Lee,  K. Owen White and W. A. Criswell as Presidents of the SBC.

There will be a lot of back-slapping, back watching! Things will go smoothly 'cause they are all one happy family now. I would say one BIG happy family, but the SBC isn't BIG any more....in many areas.

KP - The SBC still IS "big" by any definition of groups, even if cleaning out the vipers and allowing liberals to form their own groups. What other Baptist fellowship begins to mirror their size and influence? (And remember, I'm NOT SBC personally)

It's about time! I've got some of my preacher-boys from my days teaching in an ifb college that are now at SBC seminaries and I, for one, am THRILLED.

I was discussing the whole Baptist thing with a buddy of mine who pastors in the ABC (by the way, if he was SBC, he would be on the far right and in the Founders, so in the ABC, he is "out there."). He and I agreed that if the CBF left the SBC formally and joined the ABC, several things would happen.

    1. The CBF would suddenly become the conservative wing of something.

    2. The ABC would more than double in Size.

    3. The SBC would still be the largest protestant denomination.

    4. Both denominations would be more conservative as a result.

Biggest doesn't always mean best or even "chosen" and don't give the CBF more influence than they actually have.

I predict a very low key non controversial Convention.
