Lost in the hub-bub of the RNC drama is a piece from the NY Times about Trump's foreign policy views on protecting NATO and how to respond to states being threatened by authoritarians. Basically, it boils down to this: Trump would intervene only after he checked the "books" to see if the country has paid up their protection money.

Trump said if he were elected, he would not pressure Turkey or other authoritarian allies about conducting purges of their political adversaries or cracking down on civil liberties. The United States, he said, has to “fix our own mess” before trying to alter the behavior of other nations.

He explicitly raised new questions about his commitment to automatically defend NATO allies if they are attacked, saying he would first look at their contributions to the alliance. He said the rest of the world would learn to adjust to his approach. “I would prefer to be able to continue” existing agreements, he said, but only if allies stopped taking advantage of what he called an era of American largess that was no longer affordable.

He even called into question whether, as president, he would automatically extend the security guarantees that give the 28 members of NATO the assurance that the full force of the United States military has their back.

For example, asked about Russia’s threatening activities that have unnerved the small Baltic States that are among the more recent entrants into NATO, Mr. Trump said that if Russia attacked them, he would decide whether to come to their aid only after reviewing whether those nations “have fulfilled their obligations to us. He added, “If they fulfill their obligations to us, the answer is yes.””

It's no racket to not provide services to those not paying for those services, especially at the rock-bottom price of non-American NATO membership. One of the great things about Trump is that he may be the first president in a very long time to put American interest first.

Ah, but the price of not protecting them will be much greater than in protecting them. America's first interest is in protecting us, the USA. It is much better to protect ourselves there, with allies, than here with no allies left.

Putin must be rubbing his hands together in anticipation as he waits for Trump to hand him, first Eastern Europe and then Western Europe.

And China must be delighted knowing that Trump would hand them the South China Sea.

Yes, this is the problem with having a businessman for a candidate. He puts a price on world peace. "Check the accounts receivables on Ukraine. See if they're all paid up. If not, I don't care what Putin does."

So what are you planning on doing brother in the Light? Either Hillary or Trump is going to be the next President, even if you vote a write in. It has been narrowed down to these two, barring any unforeseen circumstances. So we are where we are according to the Providence of God. It appears God either wants Hillary or Trump as President. What I would like to know, if possible, is why? I find it fascinating how God places men and women in positions to fulfill His own purposes, preparing this world for the return of Jesus Christ. It's noble and fine to take a stand against either one of these two for righteous reasons, however, God does want one of them to be the President.

Now I don't see any evidence that either one of them is a Christian, but wouldn't it be fascinating to see someone like Hillary become President and then six months later God saves her and she does a 180 on issues such as abortion and Planned Parenthood!!!!! WOW! That would be awesome! And what world wide glory would Jesus Christ receive!! I would love to see God do such a thing. We don't know what God has planned and why it looks like he is planning on one of these two to be the next President.

What am I going to do? Trust God to protect my family and ask Him to bless the United States. Work on spreading the gospel so people will become Christians.

This attitude among Christians that if Hillary is elected then the US is doomed is ridiculous. We'll get through a Hillary Clinton presidency just like we got through two terms of Obama and two terms of Bill Clinton, and like my grandparents got through almost four terms of FDR.

I meant how are you going to vote? I believe the US is already doomed, it has been headed more and more towards paganism for decades and it is not spoken of as an end time player. We even have hundreds of thousands of professing Christians voting for pro abortion candidates, how antichrist is that? So we will get through a Trump presidency also, right?

Hillary would be the first Presidential candidate in history with both the desire and opportunity to nullify the Constitution. It's like if we were in 1933 Germany and we knew Hitler desired and would have the ability to start WWII and kill millions of Jews, and you said to people who opposed Hitler for that reason, This attitude that if Hitler is elected Germany is doomed is ridiculous." Either you would be incredibly naive, or you'd secretly want to kill all the Jews, even if it meant Germany would be crushed in war.

I'll either not vote for President, write in someone, or vote 3rd party. I will vote in state and local elections, probably all GOP, though my state representative, a Democrat, is OK and the GOP opponent looks to be about 25 years old.

Yep. Further in debt and probably at war with another country.

You have to define "opportunity." Hillary is actually more "business as usual" than radical change. And you'd have to show that Congress would support a nullification of the Constitution. And then you'd have to show that the American people would support a nullification. Because, at least in my neck of the woods, at that point you'd be talking armed revolution.

Then trust God, take a [IMG] and likewise believe you'll get through a Trump presidency.

Congress has already proven they won't stop the nullification of the constitution. And the American people ar helpless with a gutless Congress afraid of the imperial power of the president. We've witnessed 7 years of it already.

If the people in your neck of the woods had the brains to launch an armed revolution, they would already have told you about Hillary's opportunity.

There are four judges on the Supreme Court, activist judges, who have no regard for the Constitution and they hate our religious freedoms. All four of them were appointed by business-as-usual Democrats. What's new is that there's an empty seat on the Supreme Court and the first opportunity by a Liberal Democrat in history to fill the seat with the Fifth Activist, a judge with no regard for the Constitution, thus nullifying the Constitution.

As for showing they'd nullify the Constitution, review the voting history of Ginsburg, Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan. And, stop bothering me with you ignorance.

Trump complained about his critics asking him about a NATO ally––”a smaller one that nobody in this room’s ever heard of”––getting attacked by Russia and how the U.S. would respond.

Trump said, “‘Are you saying you’re not gonna protect em?’ I say, ‘Well, let me ask you: have they paid?'”
