What's a light-board and why is it scary?

Because they were placed in high traffic corridors. Some were strapped to a concrete support pillars. And they had wiring coming out of them.

From what I saw, I did not think they were 'scary'. Stupid taken to a newer and greater level - yes. Profane and trying to encourage anger - yes. Placed by a radical group - yes. A bomb - not enough info.

But, when a 9-11 (emergency telephone) crew starts getting reports of 'packages with wires coming out' in many places . . . someone starts thinking 'coordinated attack'.

I wonder if anyone thought of just calling a bomb squad to check them out.

Naaahhh. More fun to panic and cause a major flap and inconvenience everyone.

I suspect most of the outrage is embarassment by the powers that be, for being such idots.

It is a box with light bulbs in it that lights up to make an image - the image is profane and intended to cause anger.

That coupled with the belief that there were bombs involved led to the use of bomb squads . . . at least that is the department that is usually called when they start evacuating schools and blocking bridges during a bomb scare.

The devices caused more panic than was anticipated, but Turner called the marketing 'gorilla marketing'.

Gotta love a liberal news media.

2800 people were murdered one day in N.Y.C., on planes stolen from Boston. As a resident of Massachusetts at the time, I can tell you the entire state was ashamed. All you people calling them idiots best believe they don't want it to happen again.

    Kudos to the Boston authorities.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Am I wrong or didn't these suspicious boxes with wires coming out of them have to be opened to see the cartoon figure giving the finger?

And just because it was a cartoon figure doesn't make it benign.

I was under the impression watching it yesterday that the boxes were placed where one would place a bomb to destroy bridges and stop traffic and generally cause destruction.

For what? It was Bush's decision to shut down monitoring of Saudi nationals in the US. Massachusetts had nothing to do with that.

So panicking over little cartoon figures in light boxes is going to prevent another hijacking? How so? Common sense is still a useful concept, especially in moments like this one.

I suppose if it's worth overreacting, it's worth hysterically overreacting.

Maybe the light boxes were just a distraction and while everyone was busy trying to detonate them, the terrorists were able to board a plane with a bottle of water!

The boxes were about 1 inch think total and are not much more than modified lite brights. They were mostly placed on fronts of buildings about 8 to 10 feet off the ground and lit up at night and turned off when the sun came up. They could be easily seen during the day. You didn't have to open anything.

They had also been up for THREE weeks before all the hub bub started. Glad to see the geniuses in Boston are so observant.

Geurilla marketing has been around for a long time, but it was mostly used by the "little guy" trying to find a way to compete with all the billions of dollars spent on marketing by big business. It is basically non-conventional ways of advertising. The big guys finally realized how effective it is and are now spending millions on their own "geurilla marketing". Has nothing to do with the news media, liberal or otherwise.

Google "geurilla marketing fims" and a whole host of companies pop up.

OK, so they are there for 3 WEEKS and everyone is just now losing their minds about them!!! This would hilarious if it weren't so sad that an entire city goes nuts about this. Me thinks they received way more publicity in the panic then if someone just took the light-brights down.

Hello, did anyone think about just taking the boxes down?

Did you see the press conference of the two guys arrested, for what I don't know? They talked about hair cuts.
