In 1973 seven black robed justices of the Supreme Court handed down the decision [Roe v Wade] that condemned over 50,000,000 unborn babies to death, some by scalding with a saline solution, some by dismemberment, some by suctioning out their brain. The response of the populace at large was ambivalent at best, ho hum at worst. and still is. In 1973 the so-called baby boomers were coming into maturity. It was perhaps this group that should have taken the lead in addressing the problem of abortion. They did not. It was the Roman Catholic Church who first actively opposed abortion. The Southern Baptist Convention passed endless resolutions but? http://www.johnstonsarchive.net/baptist/sbcabres.html Other Southern Baptists were not so kind! http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?id=17486 At the present time baby boomers are retiring at the rate of 10,000 each day. Social Security is a pay-as-you-go system, a transfer of wealth from worker to retiree. Who will pay the Social Security benefits of these baby boomers? http://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/social-security-follow-math In 1950, there were 16 workers paying taxes into the system for every retiree who was taking benefits out of it. Today, there are a little more than three. By the time the baby boomers retire, there will be just two workers who will have to pay all the taxes to support every one retiree. Since 1973 the number of babies killed by abortion represent about one third of all pregnancies. The unforeseen consequences of the ho hum by the baby boomers is that rather than three workers paying their retirement there will be only two!
