Rather than waste more time listening for nominations, I'm just going to nominate the people I know here and put it into a poll-like thing. After the poll closes, i'll ask the ones with the most votes if they want to have a formal debate. So check it out- and please vote.

You need candidates that fully align themselves with either specific doctrine to have a valid debate.

I do not align with either doctrine.

i'd have to agree with you there. can't edit the poll now. so i suppose you could just decline and we'd have 4 candidates on the non-calvinist side.

    something smells fishy

if wes was not asked..this makes me wonder if others were asked. were they?

the last i saw posted was Bob said yes..and no one else had said yes.

ah surewhynot lol. i just figgered if i put it up to vote, i'd get a little input on it. i decided to just have a vote then ask the people with the highest vote counts if they were interested. if not, no biggie.

I'm ignoring the vote. I wasn't 'pre selected' as a debater. [IMG]

No one can debate rc! We don't even speak the same language! [IMG]

I have NEVER been a debater and am not a theology student. I can't throw out greek. Truthfully, I'm guessing all the Calvinists voted for ME so the non Calvinist would lose. [IMG] [IMG]

    Nothing against you diane...

But i never saw the point of a vote. I'm all for fairness...and Bob said he would do it..no one else said they would. Bob can handly himself. I say let him have it.

I bring up the other points...of having both sides help in this. For if not...one side will always cry "unfair".

If it was me in the ring..i would rather have 3-4 on the other side..with only me and my bible. just so as not to hear all the crying after it is over.

    can i have a high 5????

    hehe...(BIG DAWG...HAS BIG WORDS)

Bob Ryan is Seventh Day Adventist. I'd guess his winning or losing wouldn't hold much water on a Baptist Board.

I'd suggest Pastor_Bob as the non Calvinist advocate and Pastor Larry as the Calvinist. Both are ministers and both are moderators so would remain within all rules. (Plus I think Pastor_Bob would win quite easily ;) )

Seventh Day Adventist? well that explains the works salvation.

    sorry..i didn't know.

Pastor larry said he was out...but i think it was more because Bob said he would debate....and larry as been around with Bob to many times. but larry can speak for himself.

I don't know pastor bob to well. i have seen a few post, by him, but not many.

If you uphold him, i'm sure he is a good debater

I would like to see how the last few posts resolve before going too far along those lines.

How does "Adventist" disqualifiy from "Arminian"?

Is there some argument I have used here -- that was not "sola-scriptura"??

The only place I saw where a difference could have existed was on the ONE exposed point of a few Arminians - which is the problem of being Arminian AND holding to OSAS.

I have seen Calvinists expose the inconsitency in some Arminians who hold to both at once. Since I do not hold to that view - the Calvinists don't have that as an option when I debate them.

I thought "that" would be the big difference - but then I noticed other Arminians here who also figured that one out and closed the gap.

So what "else"? I have not seen anything on this board that tries to discount my Arminian views "because I am Adventist" --

(OR did I miss a post?)

    In Christ,

    Bob

If it's going to be a true Calvinist vs. Arminian debate, both debaters should be "5-pointers," IMO.

I'd have no problem with BobRyan debating for the Arminian side. Just require the debate to be sola-scriptura, and the problem is solved.
