I and beginning to see how inane this fighting is. The same things are said over and over and I really feel we are wasting our time. KJV are not KJV we were not put here on earth to fight over this. If you use the KJV and think it is the best good use it but don't condemn others who don't. And if you don't use the KJV and don't like it keep it to your self. I know I have posted many things on this but really just hit me how silly this is. Lets stop fighting as Christians and start doing something positive like witnessing and leading lost people to Christ. What good will it do for the Kingdom to sit here and argue over something so petty. I hope we can stop this and maybe discuss something better. Yes, this is a debate forum and it is translations but still come on. Why not talk about what is good about the Bibles we have about what you are getting out of them. That's Just my opinion sorry if it is not yours. God bless

KJV-onlyism is a cancer that is spreading through churches. It is propagating lies and causing division, things which scripture condemns. I will not sit by and watch this spread, while I have the information and ability to fight it.

Just this week I received an email from someone thanking me for being vocal and providing information, because this person has a family member who is now attending a KJV-only church where the pastor has convinced the family member to no longer speak to non-KJV-only family members. I realize that is an extreme example, but it does happen. I've had other people write to me literally confused and upset about their salvation because someone (a pastor, an author, a friend) told them they cannot be saved if they use a Bible "inspired by Satan". It is for these people I debate for, as I have no idea how many people in these types of situations are lurking here. Yes, I realize (and agree!) that repeated arguments against the same people (who I don't expect to change) seem pointless and petty, but there are benefits that are not so obvious.

It is not the casual "I prefer the KJV" kind of person I stand against, but those that vocally spread untruth, trying to draw others into their error. If they're going to push that on people, I for one am going to push back.

Besides, petty debate keeps my sword sharp, if nothing else. ;)

If you want something else discussed, start a new discussion. If you don't want to read any more about KJVOnlyism, then don't open that thread.

Amen. We have to refute error and the lies of the devil. This is a fight that must be waged.

I generally stay clear of these discussions, but feel compelled to speak. I use the KJV, my 1945 Cambridge edition, because that is how long I have used it. I am familiar with it and most of my memorization is from it. It is not the end all in theological studies as any student will attest. It is merely a workbook as any other copy of scripture.

We miss a great deal when we fight over which version is best. Read from them all. Get all you can from each one. Apply the truth gleaned over all, and get on with your Christian life and ministry. I am so busy finding out what God wants me to do and to be, without wasting precious time feuding over jots and tittles. We English have the old saying about being penny wise and pound foolish, well, I am convinced that this is what it amounts to and those who thus engage are the losers. God help us to minister the word, lead the people, and above all else, point ourselves upward towards our heavenly Father and the One who so valiantly spread himself on the cruel cross for us.

    Cheers, and God bless,

    Jim

The thing that worries me about kjv only is this : The devil is going to try and ruin our testimony and our character. I've had a personal battle reguarding the Bible I read. Feelings hurt over it. Sometimes I wish the Devil wouldn't win.

It is much more than just not reading this threat. It has been convicting me to share this. We fight and fight and fight and fight and for what? To say the same thing over and over and over again. It goes past the thread, it seems so discouraging to fight. We as Christians should try getting along some time talking about what we do agree with. It is old it is wrong it is silly and inane. But if you feel fighting makes u better christian go along

For the record, while I agree that this is an issue that is critical and the truth must be defended, I am ashamed at the way it is defended and assailed sometimes. That type of foolishness is indeed uncalled for.

i'm sick of the "you're stupid!" "oh yeah? well, you're a filthy infidel!" debating tactics. maybe it's not always said quite so plainly, but those messages do come across in most of the threads.

Wait a minute! We're Baptists. Ain't we supposed to fight?

I agree. KJVO is ridiculous to me. It's like saying only Nike shoes are holy, and if you wear any other kind, well, you better check up before yuo check out 'cause your reservation is downstairs. Totally innane to me. Oh, and I'm sure somebody will quote and bash me, but I've got a broad back :D .

    In Christ,

I recently heard a preacher in the pulpit say that if someone couldn't understand the KJV they shouldn't go to those "perversions" to get understanding. He continued this type of "preaching" for 10 minutes or so.

The issue may end up causing me to separate with a good friend- my pastor. He wasn't preaching but it was said from our pulpit and he affirmed the man who said it. This was not the position espoused by my pastor when we joined the church nor is it the position in the church's official statement of faith but he appears to be unwilling to deny what this other fellow said.

The pastor and I have worked together. We have at times probably been their only real friends/supporters in the church. I don't know of any other church in our area that isn't worse in doctrine and/or practice.

As several others have stated, I can accept someone who prefers the KJV or even uses it exclusively. But a line must be drawn when the Word of God in other versions is attacked without biblical or factual basis.

The KJVO error is divisive and destructive. We cannot simply ignore it and hope that it goes away. It won't.

Many of the "only" sect have quit the BB because of the rancor. Others stopped posting or slightly modified their position so they don't identify with the "onlies" (even though they still are).

Earnestly contending for the Faith. Jude reminds us that this is a role we must not shirk.

But CONTENDING does not mean being CONTENTIOUS in our fight. These misguided folks are not the enemy; they are not woves in sheeps clothing. They are brothers and sisters for whom Christ died.

When we find them in a fault or an error, what are we to do? "Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."

So I will never quit the fight, just as a surgeon will never quit hating the cancer that eats away at his patients. But my goal will always be to "gently restore", and not start picking up stones.

I agree about the rancor and the mean spirited sarcasm. I get my feelings hurt and I'm a tough guy. Part of it is the format. It is very hard to read emotions in this format. But I do enjoy the exhange of ideas and seeing if my positions will stand up to scrutiny and critical thought. I have to admit, I have come to consider some of my "opponents" as friends. I thought Ed Edwards was a jerk at first, but now I have come to really like him and appreciate his sense of humor. If we ever were to meet I think we would be friends.

One of our problems is taking ourselves too seriously. Another problem is that we don't remember that some of the positions we are defending are actually "new" to us too. We had to learn our convictions and unlearn many too as the Holy Spirit patiently deals with us. I cut my hair about 6 years ago after wearing it very long for 20 years. Now, if I'm not careful, I find myself wanting people to come instantly to the same position it took me years and years to arrive at myself.

I think "debate" must be self-monitored. We all need to rebuke and exhort with all longsuffering, regardless of what "side" we are on.

Debate with no disagreement gives a false sense of security.

I have read threads where we have acted like a sharks in a feeding frenzy. One brave soul appears on the thread with a dissenting voice and we eat him alive with hateful sarcasm. If you can't play nice, go to your room. (And ask the Father to forgive you).

Cloud is an arrogant man with very little understanding. This article is yet another demonstration of that. No one in church history until the last 30 or so years has taken the position he does. He fails to realize that refusing to fight over Bible versions (a biblical approach) is not the same as refusing to fight for the Bible. His limited thinking does not allow him to process these obvious nuances. Instead, he colors the argument in a way that leads an unthinking person to his position.

The reason why we should not fight over Bible versions is because God has revealed to us nothing at all about the issue. That is not true about the deity of Christ, salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, etc. Unfortunately, Cloud is yet again misleading people with his false teaching. It is a shame on teh word of God that he claims to love.

What are those that believe the King James Bible doing that is so harmful? We are not condemning people to Hell. We ask that you believe in God’s word to be, infallible, inerrant, inspired, from God to them. It’s not like we are putting out a version every five minutes because someone does not like how it reads and then calling it God’s word. I also feel that sometimes the post are just same old, same old, same old stuff over and over again. Maybe they should remove the Bible version forum from BB. But, until then I will always believe that the King James Bible is God’s infallible, inerrant, inspired, preserved word.
Your right, this is extreme. But, anything can happen, in any church. What kind of church is this that the people are not suppose to witness to other people? Sounds fishey. We don’t know the situation so this example is irrelevant.
    As will I.
