    Don't know about the tie, specifically, but I somehow manage to get some smart-alecky comments when I show up in a suit and tie, wearing a Massey-Ferguson® baseball cap and 'Chuck Taylor'® sneakers.

    Incidentally, I am not making up a joke, here, but have had this actually happen. I always point out that the shoes are new or nearly so.
