The New Covenant is made with individuals; not religious groups or organizations. There were no baptist churches in the First Century nor any other "church" that would resemble what we call church today. Our essential doctrines may be consistent with the Church of Acts, but that is where the similarity ends. In fact, the only time we see loyalty expressed to a particular group or leader of a group, it is reprimanded by the apostle Paul. (I Corinthians 1) The modern definition of "church" is that of a religious institution where believers go to hear from God via a human intermediary. In action, baptist churches have more in common with the Catholic & protestant churches than with the Church of the First Century. The purpose for assembling is the same in all of them.
