Well, we know he went to Egypt so that sort or rules out the 10-mile limitation.

A fair point, though it would be noted that he had returned by an early age, say 8 or 10. Fleeing for one's life is a bit different circumstances than casual traveling.

That is the common wisdom and you're probably right, but have your ever considered John 6:42? "They were saying, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know?" Notice the present tense, which would indicate Joseph was still alive.

Don't buy into the English meaning, which is the closest the translators could get to the Greek word oikeios, not gnosis which is the word for having acquaintence or understanding with. To translate it into English, they would have had to use a multi-word phrase, something like, "whom we know to be of the household of Joseph, to be Joseph's son," which of course, by blood, He wasn't.

This word means "belonging to a house or a family, domestic, or intimate; belonging to one's household; related by blood, kindred." That could easily apply to one who is deceased.

This term does not mean that Joseph HAD to be alive, but that Jesus was known to have been the Son of Him by those of that time....

At least His Son by their reference view!

Like saying that Jesus was known as son of the carpenter, just identies them eithin that household!

This is a very good thread. For some reason, Scripture does not address those years. I have read the stories about Jesus traveling to India. I cannot pinpoint why, but that to me seems unlikely, given the limited traveling and His probable need to take care of the family.

LOL, if Joseph died early enough, Mary could have collected Roman Social Security benefits, and Jesus could have stayed on her health insurance until He was 26.

the ONLY stories linking Jesus to India/Hinduism etc come from new age crackpots!

At least one thing we know, their family did NOT need to go under Obahma care, as had immediate access to the great Physician!
