One of my favorite Bible teachers is Gary Hedrick from Messianic Perspectives. I own a CD study of his called "The Marriage Supper of the Lamb" where he goes into detail some of the Jewish customs for espousal, preparation and the marriage itself. It is a very good study.

In the study he points out that during the betrothal, the husband-to-be would build onto his fathers house in preparation for his bride. When the addition was ready, the father would inspect the addition, then give the son the "go-ahead" to marry the bride and bring her into his home.

Beautiful picture of what is taking place even now as our Jesus prepares a place for His Bride.

That place that Jesus is preparing for us will exceed anything we can imagine.1 All knowledge will be available to us. The reason being that we will be joined with him and he has all knowledge.2 Peace, complete total peace unimaginable now to the human mind . Our home will be not only a physical place but also a spiritual place. Oh what a day that will be when our Jesus we shall see.----- mime

Just as hell was made for the devil and his followers, there is a place being prepared specifically for us. It will be personal to each of us in some way.

My second thought is that the Holy Spirit in us is preparing us for that place, as well as our Lord Jesus preparing that place for us. It will be a match.... [IMG]

Most Christians believe that it is a mansion since the KJV implies this. But some believe that that a dwelling place is a better translation than mansion.

I have heard it argued that the dwelling place is the new glorified body that we will get to house our spirit.

I often wondered exactly what use I would have for a traditional mansion in heaven. I would have no use for a bedroom or a kitchen. And what would I do in my living room? Watch TV?

And if one were to entertain, who would you include and exclude from your invitation list? Aren't we all brothers and sisters in Christ?

I just can't see the mansion bit for each Christian, although I might be wrong. It could be that Jesus was talking about preparing heaven itself for us all at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.

Since God created the heavens and the earth by simply speaking them into existence, it stands to reason that Jesus can prepare our dwelling place by doing the same thing. So I doubt if He's somewhere driving nails and sawing wood.

Let's have some fun and speculate. The Scripture says there'll be a new heaven and a new earth. And the dwelling place of God is with men. And Rev 22 says there'll be a throne there, the tree of life, and water of life. And in Rev 21 John describes the New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven. Is the New Jerusalem what Jesus is preparing to bring to the earth for our eternal dwelling place?

This breaks down somewhat when John's angel guide said, Come and I'll show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb (22:9) Then he shows John the New Jerusalem. (22:10) Is the New Jerusalem the bride, or when John saw the New Jerusalem did he see all the people dwelling there?

Or is all this symbolic of something and we just don't know what it is? Ain't this fun?

About 94% of these forums is speculation! Anyway..... The New Jerusalem is not the church, the Bride of Christ.

As to "place" ... I know my place ... I've found my place in life ... this (mental, emotional)place I'm in is scary ... he doesn't know his place ..

A "place" is being prepared for us: Divine, perfect, precious. Let it be.

I believe Christ prepared that place for me when He went to Calvary..

I also do not believe that Christ is working now on my mansion.. "In the beginning God Created Heaven and Earth"

My place of residence was created then, Christ just prepared my way to it.. sorta like Christ made my reservation in Heaven..

When He said "it is finished" I believe his work of preparation was done.

Hmmm...What are the "many mansions" in God's house as the verse says?

And why does Jesus then go to the singular noun when He says He goes to prepare a place for you?

There are many, but one per person. So what are they? Houses or glorifies bodies? Or something else perhaps?

I don't know, but I'm looking forward to seeing mine!

A song by songwriter/artist Eli is pertinent:
    "The Lumber Song"
by Bob and Linda Halligan and Rick Cua eLi/Forefront/EMI/1998

Said a friend to a friend one day,
Was a man who passed away
St. Peter met him at the gate
Pete said: "Walk with me if you will
I'll take you to the house that's built"
    Man said: "I can't wait!"
Passed a mansion made of stone
But with each new house he's shown
    They get smaller by degrees
Stopped in front of a two room shack
Pete said hope you're happy with that
Man said: "How can this be?"
    Pete said:

    Chorus:
That's all the lumber--that's all the lumber
that's all the lumber you sent
Looks like the builder--man he's got your number
That's all the lumber you sent

Man didn't know what to say
    poor guy was blown away
Said: "you mean this is what I deserve?"
Pete said: "I'm afraid it's so
It's too late but now you know
    Shoulda done better work"
Said: You mean not lie and cheat
and helpin' old ladies across the street?
Pete says: Well, that's a start
Remember that man back in that great big house?
He found out early what it's all about
Built that place with his heart--as for you (chorus)

    Bridge:
What if that man was me
    And I failed that miserably
You're showin' me things I don't wanna see
    (intro)

    St. Peter if you can
Send me back to earth again
Is that somethin' you can do?
Pete said: It ain't up to me
If it was I'd like to see
    How you plan to improve
Said: I'd love God and fellow man
Take a wife and make a stand
Be the givinest guy I can be
And when I get back to this neighborhood
There'd be a big gigantic pile of wood
And I'd say: What's this I see?--You'd tell me (chorus)
