The other thread offered a choice of 8 kinds of Baptist...and then the term other.....

Just like Paul explaining the unknown God in Acts 17...this thread will explore the Baptist described as.....OTHER.....which other???? as described on BB from time to time: confused::confused::confused:

If you were not offended by some of the comments on the other thread...take heart, we will try and get you here: laugh:

    1] the arrogant and rude Baptist;
this term is used to describe Calvinists, by non cals. It is used to describe any cal who offers solid scripture or a solid link to a historic teaching....how dare the cal do so. Usually this Baptist is unable or unwilling to respond to the verse offered by the cal...so they ignore it, and call the cal names.

    2]the Christian Baptist-
someone who avoids the question because they cannot give an accurate explanation of what they believe the bible teaches...so they use the catch all phrase...I am just a Christian...but that avoids the question.

3]I would be completely fine being a member of a non-baptist church that held to credo-baptism-
These churches see the truth of believers baptism, but do not want to offend someone with the term Baptist...they remain vague so they can be free to hold many things...some might have a doctrinal statement of some kind, some just leave everyone to themselves....a mix

    4]the ignorant Baptist-
[Me thinks that the rest do not attend Baptist churches or do not know about the church they attend.
They can tell someone they are a 'Baptist" but cannot explain what they believe, biblically at all

    5]The confused Baptist-
[The church is confused, most don't know what they believe.]

6]The ashamed of the name Baptist-
[Church I attend have dropped "Baptist" from their name.]

7]The do not put God in a box Baptist-
[The need for boxes and categories...never ceases to amaze]

trying to avoid labels...not quite ready to take a stand anywhere as it would put God in a box...wants the possibility of sign gifts to continue, without coming out and saying so.

    8] The vague Baptist-
[I am right there with you on that point] and yet....no biblical point was made,

    9]The humble Baptist-
[ I am the best Baptist possible.]...under the circumstances

    10]The loose cannon Baptist-
    [ 6-point, unreformed, Anti-Pedo Baptist?]...what

    11]The nuanced Baptist-
[Nuance for some of the more left-right, black-white, right-wrong types can be a difficult concept to grasp]
this kind of person...is so, so so nuanced...that no one ever has believed scripture quite like him, so no one can even understand his views...maybe not even himself???

    12] The twaddlemaster Baptist-
[ am a 1 point Calvinist, (OSAS) and a two point Arminian,I differ from both Arminian and Calvinist doctrine ]...if need be,,this kind of persom makes it up as he goes, even inventing his own greek words if need be.

    13]The lazy Baptist-
[You quote me and yet you are not able to understand that your assertion was dealt with in the quote. Is it pure laziness on your part, or what? ]
this person relies on almost all second hand info...so he cannot respond to most follow up questions.

    14]The obscure Baptist-
[Historic Northern Regular (as in the R of GARBC, though I'm not affiliated with that association) Baptist]

    15]The unique Baptist-
[So far -- have we seen anyone who's even close to being exactly the same as someone else? ] non confessional persons who cannot identify with any other Baptist.[Anybody who recognizes that all 5 points of Calvinism and Arminianism are wrong]

16]The confused and historically challenged Baptist-
[I'm an IFB, and neither one of those doctrines are Baptist doctrine. I'm not sure what you Arminian/Calvinists are, but "'Baptist'' you are not, ]

clueless on church history....but very proudly blasts everyone else...in a humble way of course!

    17]The Calvinist hating Baptist-
[ I won't dialogue with those people (you) whenever it's possible to avoid them. ]
This kind of person cannot explain what they believe, or what the Cal believes...make a drive by attack then hide like a turtle to avoid the return answers.

    18] The denial Baptists-
[The point is, IFBs absolutely do NOT consider themselves, in any way, associated with either one of these doctrines.]
they do not say what they believe except for three or four sentences, thinking they side-step the issue, they do not.....they are always synergistic.

How about the coward Baptist? He'll say things online that he would never say in person.

Yes....another valid description . What is to be gained from all this I am not sure. We have the opportunity to learn and grow but cannot find a way to move forward.

I feel a general rude undertone to the "other" group.

    But call me "other"

The Evangelical Baptist – independent and biblically-centered; non-Cal, emphasizing “free-grace”. They may or may not use the name “Baptist”, depending on how it affects their ministry of the area in which they live. Willing to cooperate with Christians who differ in non-essential doctrinal positions.

If you're going to use my quotes, at least give me credit for them!

BTW, I DID NOT say I wouldn't dialogue with Calvinists, I was specifically talking to Rippon, who IS abrasive, and I'd rather not talk to him. Nor did I say I hate Calvinists! I hate Calvinism. Big difference. Please don't twist my words.

    1. I believe in OSAS.

    2. I believe God offers Salvation to ANY and ALL who will call upon Him.

    3. I do not believe God created some (the un-elect) for damnation, giving them no opportunity for Salvation. (Calvinism)

    4. I do not believe you can lose your Salvation. (Arminian)

    5. I believe in baptism by immersion for believers.

    6. Baptism saves no one. It is an act of obedience.

    7. I believe Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ, through repentance of sin, and calling on Him to save and forgive you.

    8. I believe in the pre-Millenial Rapture.

    9. I believe in the Lord's Supper (Communion) being open to all believers.

    10. I believe in the "Great Commission"....salvation open to ALL.

I don't believe "Baptist" doctrine agrees with either #3 or #4. In my 63 years of being a Baptist, I've found no Baptist church teaching those things. Matter of fact, every Baptist church I've ever attended taught AGAINST those things. Therefore, IMHO, an Arminian or a Calvinist, are not "Baptist".

And why do you hate the Gospel?
You are 63 years old. Are you claiming to have been born a Baptist? Were you a member from day number one? Were you christened at birth? That's some strange Baptist teaching that you subscribe to.
Spoken like you have always on the BB. You are consistent. You haven't picked up any useful information since you came on board apparently. First of all, your limited "exposure" to other Baptist churches is indeed very limited. If you haven't experienced it --it must not exist, huh?

I am sure that many Baptist churches teach against the doctrines of what they perceive Calvinism is. But many Baptist churches that are not Calvinistic certainly do not teach against Arminianism since...get ready...they are Arminian!

Think that in the Baptist churches, there are indeed BOTh Calvinists/Arminians/others, as at my church, senior pastor is a Non calvinist, but we have a mix of both on the elder board, and in our congregation!

Ok....1/2 agree.....I believe in perserverance of the saints.

    Agreed...everyone believing will be saved

I do not believe that either.

if it is the biblical salvation ..none will be lost...agreed
    Agreed

    Agreed
    Agreed

We agree Jesus retruns...I believe the rapture is the last day.

I can see each local church doing what they see as scriptural, open , or closed

    Agreed

    We have 75% agreement...not a bad start:wavey:

    I do not agree here.

I do not doubt your statement, however I do believe you have been taught incorrectly....that is why we will differ on this issue.

Most pleasant and welcomed response. Thank you. BTW, I DID mis-speak in my other post. I haven't been a Baptist for 63 years. I was saved at the age of 11, but I was in Baptist churches from a very, very young age! :tongue3:

    Hello B4L,

We can be brothers in Christ and not bite and devour one another:thumbs:

You can vigorously disagree with any of my posts at anytime. The truth belongs to God. We offer what we can, God searches our heart and motives:thumbs:
I do not see where you made a personal attack as some do. Your objections are a general objection based on what you have been taught or other factors,[bad experiences, misunderstandings, having studied yourself into a position without those conclusions being challenged scripturally, etc]

I would encourage you to ask sincere questions, and if you need to be critical have it be scriptural based ideas...not the emotion based ideas.

There are several gifted men who post in a way that can be instructive.

If you remain opposed to the teaching, at least you will know why and exactly what you cannot accept. If I can be of any help just ask.:type:
