First, is having peace with God. Second, its having peace with the body of Jesus Christ. (Ephes 4:1-3) tells us very clearly that if we are to walk" worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called," we must be " endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." A third thing that makes you a peacemaker is reconciliation. A key element of peacekeeping is bringing the gospel of peace to other people so that they in turn might have peace with God.

I have always found the greatest peacemaking effort I can make is to make it as easy as I can for people to live with me, work with me, and fellowship with me.

Charity begins at home and radiates out to others.

    Mark,

Did you notice the gospel hints in the beatitudes?

The first ones lead to salvation:

poor in spirit--recognizing a spiritual need

    mourn--sorrow of repentance

    meek--submissive to Christ

hunger and thirst after righteousness--desiring righteousness of Christ

Then the last are effects of salvation:

    merciful--forgiven and thus forgiving

pure in heart--cleased and fit for God's presence

peacemakers--make peace with God and men

    And the final result:

    persecution for faithfulness

I taught through the Sermon for about a year and a half. Blessings as you finish up.

    In Christ,

    Tim

Funny this should come up. I deal with being a peacemaker every day now. I am currently working in a state prison that houses 1500 max. level inmates. Sometimes I want to go in with a big "Zig Ziglar" smile and solve all their problems and at other times I get frustrated at the small stupid stuff they do that can get them sent to the hole for 90 days (minimum) - like stealing a honeybun from the kitchen. One guy was caught last week with over 40 fried chicken wings in his pants!!! How do you be a peacemaker where there is not much peace? [IMG]

The best way for me to keep the peace is to keep my mouth shut. [IMG]

Seriously, I have found that this does work better in most instances, just smile and not say anything.

In my job, before I retired, I had to sit on the fence alot, keeping both sides happy. This was necessary because in state government, I never knew who might be my next boss.

My last boss and one of my best friends was one that I had disagreed with nearly on a daily basis before he became my boss. I was concerned, but fortunately, he respected my opinions and would still ask for them.

If you think about it, there isn't much peace ANYWHERE right now.

Just be a peacemaker by your example. I know it's hard in a prison. My son worked in one.

He was respected by guards and prisoners alike.
That is an accomplishment to strive for! Both sides had no doubt that he was a Christian and when he told them something, they could 'take it to the bank'.

Okay, lets define what the word Peace means. Peace means, calm, reprose, freedom from war; quietness of mind. (Rom 5:1) " Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." I know that I have made peace with God. Asking for forgiveness is making your peace with God. This is a part of Salvation.(my opinion).
