You can use Adobe Photoshop. It is a little expensive, but will do anything you need it to.

    Katie,
I always use Serif for drawing and effects, I have a Serif Draw Plus 4 programme that I can let you have, if you will send me your postal address, I have a later version, and this is now redundant , you are welcome to have it if you would like. I have the manual as well.It is an excellent prog. There are 2 CDs one of these is a design CD. [IMG]

PS it also does animation, and all sorts of clever stuff, it will certainly do things like on the site you refer to.

    edited to add PS

    Katie,

Photoshop is definitely the best option and is available to download for a trial period of 30 days. I think I seen that on the Photoshop website if you do a search you will find it. The only problem is that it needs a lot of memory and takes ages to download.

If you want something smaller try some of these

Hope you get what you need.

Ps. As mentioned above there is freeware available which some claim is nearly as good as photoshop, I tried out the one recommended on the Freeware thread but it was a major disappointment. I don't think you'll get anything free that comes anywhere close to photoshop.

    Katie,

you can (and should) expect a very good performance from photoshop. among the freewares, you will have the burden of deciding which one will suit you.

meanwhile, when the best of the freewares are set together with Photoshop, you'll end up deciding according to the most important criteria - yourself. that is, what you can do by now, and how much are you willing to get better using a software.

for example, Pixia can draw almost anything you need to draw, depending on your level as an artist and your knowledge of it. having said that, you'll appreciate an excellect artist using Pixia (or any other freeware) more than a novice using photoshop.

you might want to check some artworks using Pixia, as done by a very good artist. Click here.

as a recommendation, if you are able and willing to purchase photoshop, go ahead. if the cost is not worth the cause, try the most recommended freewares. you can see some at nonags.com.
