I like the idea of knocking it down and building a park in memory of those lost.

I may get accused of being calloused, but I think the best thing would be to return students to school there after it has been repaired and evidence of the shootings eliminated. It would make a statement of strength that they will not be destroyed by the evil of one person.

It is only because of our affluent society that we ask about the other options. In many places in the world, where resources are low, and tragedy is much more common, people have no choice but to simply return to the places where their loved ones have died, whether that be a house, or a school.

    My vote...."other"

If I HAD to do something I would:
    1. repair the building
    2. build a memorial
    3. Trade buildings with another school for 5 1/2 years. What I mean is bus the Sandy Hook kids to another school building for the next 5 1/2 years. Bus the kids from another school into Sandy Hook for the same period.

I see no reason to tear down and rebuild. However, I also see no reason for the school district to force those kids to return there. Ideally, IMO, the best option is to repair the building, build a memorial of some sort, and return to business as usual. Allow the parents to decide for their own families whether their own kids will return to the school or do a permissive transfer to another school.

Generally speaking it is best to return to normal as soon as possible. People have endured enough trauma because of one man and to allow him to further upset the normal routine of their daily lives is not healthy.

    Agree!

I chose the first poll option for that reason.

Further, set aside a small place on the property to serve as a memorial. Not only to remember those who were lost. To as a reminder that life is full of bad things from minor to major. A part of the reality of life is that we have to learn to move forward despite what happens around us.

The Serenity Prayer comes to mind, as I type.

We should return it to its purpose as a school, though with appropriate reminders of its past. When we allow terrible things to push us away from our spaces we lose something as a people. As I recall two other mass shootings, Columbine and Wedgewood Baptist, occupy the spaces where these tragedies occurred.
