after the shooting death of one pastor? It's not that I support this pastor's murder but how many murders do we have every year and how many of them are ministers in their churches? I'd say the probability of another murder like this is close to zero.

I'd say it's a lot less when the congregation is armed.

I thought you liked the constitution ? What changed your mind ?

Faith in God is a strawman argument. Jesus told his people to arm themselves. You wouldn't address that fact in the other thread.

I'm not in support of arming the congregation, but try to show a little class. Opening a new thread to make an attack on those in the other thread that support this is classless. Attacking their faith takes it to a level below classless.

Law abiding citizens should be able to take their guns with them everywhere, including church.

I agree with you. I don't think we should be posting guards and sentries at the church however :).

    No, they'd miss the sermons.

I'll tell you what, come to a Cowboy Camp meeting up here sometime, you'll be in the safest place in America. You may run into a bear on the way to the car.

Also, I've heard of churches putting a couple of large brothers in the "greeter" role. Is that kind of a sentry ?

    ***NOTE***

Before you men go further with the arming of church members---and of the bearing of firearms within the premises of a church building I would suggest that you search the local laws of your area----because in some areas it is against the law to bear arms within the premises of any church building or synagogue

It's different saying that a certain act shows little faith than to attack the faith of someone. I'm attacking the act not the person. Do you believe we should arm our congregations?

How about to the airport? Here in Atlanta the Gov. wanted to allow people to carry concealed weapons to the busiest airport in the world. The Mayor of Atlanta successfully blocked it. Why bother having security at the airport when everyone is packing heat?

    What about property insurance?

Our congregation spends close to a grand a month on casualty insurance, about 10% of our total budget. Should we trust God to protect us from fire and earth quakes or should we trust God for the $1000/month? Does it matter?

Do you love President Bush, even though he is not your enemy?

Isnt this thread kind of silly?

Its like saying, "if I learn to swim, then I am not trusting in God to save me if I fall overboard"

Face it, if it werent for guns, and strong folks like GW Bush, we wouldnt have the right or oppurtunity to start silly threads like this one.

At least it's refreshing to have a goofy thread here in the Politics Forum once in awhile. Thanks, JC, for the chuckle.

Did he say to stand by and let them shoot innocent people? I missed that in my translation. If you don't mind, please give us a reference.

A man breaks into your house to rape your wife and kill your children.

    Do you hug him?

    Think before you post.

We are not arming our congregations. We don't stand at the door and pass out guns.

This is a silly thread to start with...but when you post these kind of "arguments," it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

    Hey, look...a clever gun joke.

What does faith have to do with it? I mean did the people in this church have less faith so thats why the pastor was killed. If they'd had more faith God would have protected him from being killed? Therefore, if you ahve faith God will keep someone from killing you, you ned never defend yourself? Christians, people with faith, die by someone elses hand all the time, always have always will. Prehaps Stephen didn't have enough faith and thats why he was stoned to death.
Self defense is not a lack of faith. The argument is ignorant.
