from what I am seeing here, it doesn't matter what God said, people ar going to do what they want, and try their best to make scripture support it, no matter what God said.

Perhaps you'd like to make an argument regarding what God said? This is your second murmur post to this thread and I, for one, would be delighted to hear you add something constructive.

xdx, when you post, define your terms. Are the women in your question Christian or non? Which specific scriptures are you referencing?

Assuming you mean a Christian woman, is it God, the church, or the husband who allows a woman to pursue a career? Does God, the church, or the husband dictate how a woman should live? Are we all supposed to search the scriptures diligently to determine our "life path," our role vs.a.vs our spouse? Am I to determine my wife's "life path"? Do I tell her what her life path must be? Pretend you are a married, Christian student in a university, in a bible class. It is your final exam. Answer these questions from that point of view.

Is her relationship to God through Christ her Savior the important thing, rather than where she works? If, in her pursuit of fame, success, and power she excludes God, breaks that relationship, isn't that the issue she must eventually face?

Does the Bible set forth the criteria for women in leadership roles? You have a Chancellor in Germany who is female. We will have a Speaker of the House who is female. Does the Bible speak to that?

In a secular society, can we expect employers to consider the biblical view? Does your interpretation of "submissive" have anything to do with wages and salaries?

My own position is that those women who are moving in God's will, following in Jesus' footsteps, will not have to answer questions such as these, and no one among us has the right to question them about it. The church has grossly misinterpreted the so-called "submissive" portions of scripture. In our post-modern society these questions are moot, since millions of Christian women are employed outside the home. We men are not in position to hold them up to judgment over the decisions that they have made. We have to be cautious about a "holier-than-thou" attitude.

I disagree that women should preach to men. I'm not even sure if they should preach to women, I know they are instructed to teach the younger women.

Interestingly, you pick a verse that does not provide a reason, just a command.

Thats ok~ Everyone is intitled to their own opinion. :wavey:

I guess its just the way I see it.

    Preach=
    κηρύσσω
    kērussō
    kay-roos'-so
Of uncertain affinity; to herald (as a public crier), especially divine truth (the gospel): - preach (-er), proclaim, publish.

So women who are called to preach by the Lord shouldn't?

Like I said in a church setting (unless I am given permission or asked) I won't preach, this is for a male pastor according to the bible. But out on the street, in the grocery store... ect. Its open season to preach if the Lord wills and puts the words in my mouth and the desire in my heart. :flower:

Wrong gender, but thanks for playing.

Don't be a simp. What you are welded to is the idea hat, because you interpret (or are told to interpret) the Word in a given manner, such interpretation allows you to dictate the place of others in your society.

I brought it up as a simile.

Look that up in your 19th-century dictionary.

Whether you are a feminist or effeminate, the result is the same.

You brought it up to race-bait. You have no scriptural argument so you associate someone who disagrees with your effeminate gender position to attempt to defame through an association that has absolutely no relevance to this conversation.

Is there something wrong with my 19th century dictionary?

    Here's 21st century dictionary.com for ya:

How are my views in returning to God's model more intolerant than yours? Is it possible that you are the bigot?

    Priceless.

I apologize, then, for using a simile which you cannot grasp. I will, in the future, strive to dumb down my similes so that you can better understand them.

Of course it's possible, but I thnk it's unlikely.

You see, your position is that your interpretation (or the interpretation you've been instructed to have) is the only possible interpretation of Scripture. As a male, you can thus rest assured that, in effect, God likes you more than God likes women. God trusts you more than God trusts women. Never mind the major role that women play throughout Scripture, never mind the historical context within which the Gospel writers ands Paul wrote, never mind that several women are singled out by Paul as leaders in the church.

My position, on the other hand, recognizes these facts.

So perhaps you aren't bigoted after all. Perhaps you're merely ignorant.

There is a difference between being a leader and a servant in a church. Cite your source that Paul singles out women as leaders in the church...in light of who he states leaders are to be in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

Yes. I believe in absolutes and God absolutely desires that He be the head of Christ that Christ be the head of man and man be the head of woman. He also provided ample instruction for the leaders of the local churches to be men and that women are to keep silent in the church etc.

I am not advocating this position for God is no respecter of persons. However, there are specific roles that God has ascribed to His people. Men are to be leaders, women are to be help meets.

The positive role that women played throughout scripture is praiseworthy. However, the positive role model women, always played their roles within the confines of God's requirements.

I presume by this you are saying that all the scripture that applies to women not being leaders really doesn't apply to us as he was really just talking to the women of Corinth etc. I believe that scripture applies to us and I am not in favor of cafeteria Christianity where we pick and choose what verses we want to apply to us and cast out the ones that don't fit our secular humanist politically correct worldview.

There were no women who were leaders of the church. This can only be extracted when you read from a bible that says things like Phoebe was a deaconess rather than a servant of the church.

Your position is based on contemporary counterfeit Bibles, politically correct instructors and a bias to defend your chick pastor. She is in rebellion to the word of God for leading and you are in rebelliion for defending her rebellion...of course this is just my bigoted worldview talking.

Bigoted indeed, when you resort to insults like "chick pastor" and dismissing scholarship as "counterfeit Bibles."

I rue the moment I thought you would be intelligent enough to carry on a discussion with. Feel free to post a few disparaging comments so that you can have the solitary pleasure of the last word.

I think we're coming together here. I don't believe women are called to preach, period. They are supposed to share their faith and your examples are wonderfully illustrative of that.

Out on the street, marketplace etc. we (men and women) are to share our faith with others, and sometimes, even frequently, women end up sharing their faith with men. But that is not preaching to a congregation. In Timothy, Paul instructs Timothy to not allow women to exert authority over a man. God sets up order in the Church, always appointing a man to head it. I Tim2: 11,12 and on in vrs. 13, 14 the reason given is that the woman is easily deceived. She is more likely to abandon truth, or become deceived, than a man is.

A woman in the Body of Christ has a remarkable supportive role in her husbands life, but also a leading role in keeping the home and raising the children. Those that remain unmarried can take on fantastic lives of service for the Lord. We know a couple of Missionary women that have very fruitful ministries.
