What is your opinion on why we have all these bible versions? It would be great if they agreed with each other, but they do not. So, why? Why wouldn't God put his word in one book that we as English speaking people could read together on the same page and then go out and spread the Gospel for Jesus Christ. Why?

    Hello, HomeBound...

If language didn't change as time passes, we would all be able to read one version. But language changes. Word meanings change. The word prevent meant to go before when the KJV translators were at work - today it means to stop from happening. As language changes that change necessitates change in the Bible too - not to change the Bible's meaning, but to keep the original meaning.

Another reason for the proliferation of English Bible versions is that someone has their own reasons for wanting a new translation. One of the major reasons King James approved work on the translation which now bears his name is that he was uncomfortable with the marginal notes in the Geneva Bible, the Bible most popular at the time the KJV tranalators went to work - so King James made sure there was a translation with no such notes. Just as King James wanted a version of the Bible he agreed with, so there are such versions in more modern times. Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon church, started work on his own revision of the KJV. Two more similar versions come to mind, too. The Clear Word Bible is a Seventh Day Adventist version, and the New World Translation is from the Jehovah's Witnesses (see History of the English Bible for more information on various Bible versions).

It is sad that all English Bible versions are not done with the most humble and pure intentions, but such is not the case. Watch out especially for versions backed by groups whose theology is not exactly biblical, as some of these can be very damaging...

There is a corner near me.
From there you can walk or drive to:

    1 chicken place
    1 juice place
    2 Mexican places
    1 sea food place
    3 burger places
    3 pizza places
    2 Chineese places

    2 Grocery stores
3 Drug stores that sell food
2 24-7 stores that sell food.

You know, it would be a real shame
to sit there with a $20 bill in your
    pocket and STARVE. Really sad.

The moral of my tale is this:
God has blessed the present world
(so near the end) with more versions
in English than has ever been known
    in the history of Christendom.

I just feel like something good
    Is about to happen
I just feel like something good
    Is on the way

I just feel like something good
    Is about to happen
    And brother this could
    Be that very day!

    o that's EASY!

so that he can confuse the wisdom of the Onlyists!

imagine what a Vulgate-onlyist mighta felt when the Reformation hit n other vulgar vernaculars proliferated? woo hoo!

or, going back further in time, imagine what mighta gone thru the head of the MT-onlyist as Jesus reads outta a Hebrew "MV" in Isaiah--must've blown his socks off!

    or Paul, or Peter, etc.

the wisdom of the divine isn't boxed by an Onlyist thimble. never was, never is, never will be! ;)

Who can say for sure why God does what He does unless he reveals it to us? We can speculate, I suppose...

Maybe the translators of the KJV are right and a " variety of translations is profitable for the finding out of the sense of the Scriptures: so diversity of signification and sense in the margin, where the text is not so clear, must needs do good, yea, is necessary, as we are persuaded."

Maybe having a variety of translations is actually a help in finding the true meaning of scripture in all its shades of meaning.

come to think of it further, why not triangulate ur thots a little bit?

VERSION I: What is your opinion on why we have all these KJB Editions--KJB1611He, KJB1611She, KJB1769, KJBVinegar, KJBCambridge, KJB-OLB, DefinedKJB, KJ21, etc.? It would be great if they agreed with each other, but they do not. So, why? Why wouldn't God put his word in one book that we as English speaking people could read together on the same page and then go out and spread the Gospel for Jesus Christ. Why?

VERSION II: What is your opinion on why we have all these TR editions: Erasmus1stEd, Erasmus2ndEd, Erasmus3rdEd, Erasmus4thEd, BezaEd, ScrivenerEd, TBS-Ed, etc.? It would be great if they agreed with each other, but they do not. So, why? Why wouldn't God put his word in one book that we as TR-only people could read together on the same page and then go out and spread the Gospel for Jesus Christ. Why?

hmm, wonder how the TR-onliers n KJB-onliers wld ride on this one. :D

"What is your opinion on why we have all these bible versions?"
Because we have all those people with translating skills itching to use them. Not to mention all those Bible collectors wanting to expand their collection.

"It would be great if they agreed with each other, but they do not. So, why?"
Well they usually agree with eachother. If they were all exactly the same, those collectors would have nothing to buy, those translators would have nothing to break their teeth on.

"Why wouldn't God put his word in one book that we as English speaking people could read together on the same page and then go out and spread the Gospel for Jesus Christ. Why? "
Because all those English speaking Gospel spreaders would most likely spend more time demanding everybody else learns 'Bible English' instead of getting on with the Good News.

why all the translations? So the devil can have a field day might be one reason[/B
I have worked with youth in our church for years.try bible study, memory work, etc with everyone coming through the door carrying a different version.Even the "Good News for Modern Man" might be workable,at least all could follow along. :(

What Greek text is your bible based on? Did you say "UBS 4th edition," or "Nestle/Aland 26th edition?" Why?

Thanks for all the opinions. My believe is that the King James Bible is God's only inpsired, infallible, inerrant word and that all other versions are the work of the anti-Christ. One said that God has blessed us with so many versions, but I say that the devil knew how to reach man and make him doubt God and whether you like it or not, that is exactly what we are doing. Do you think God wants us to fight and have bitterness in our heart because of this? Of course not, but the devil does. He started it with Eve and he has had over 6000+ years to think about it, besides, he knows the Bible better than any of us.

Also, every time some MSS pops up, people look to it to see if it lines up with the Bible and they should, but when it don't, they throw away the Bible instead of the MSS, claiming that since the MSS is older it has to be better, but that is not true. I don't know how to make you all believe what I believe except by praying for ya. If sometimes I have sounded bitter or angry toward any of you, I apologize. It just hurts me to see how the devil is pulling the wool over so many good people. [IMG]

    Again, thanks for your replies.

    1. Sell them for a profit Business)
    2. Easiest to read them
    3. Better translations
    4. Better colleges
    5. God gave up

They CANNOT copy the Word of God because they are copyrighted.

God is not the author of confusion. Modern versions are too many English bible translations, however WHICH is that God provides you and me ONE Book for English-speaking tongue?

    /Ed raises his hand
    "I think I know - I think I know"./

The KJV1611 was perfect, so the
    beloved baby baptizers went about
to make it perfecter. That is my guess
and I'm sticking with it [IMG]

    There's biblical precedent!

Act 18:26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

    ;)

Ooooh...I would think it might be unwise to make a statement like that. If you are wrong, and some of those other translations are indeed blessings from God, given to us to help enlighten us, and you are attributing them to the work of devil, that's sort of a serious thing, isn't it?

Without a definitive word from God on this, don't you think it would be wiser to keep yo' mouth closed (or your fingers still)?

How about an answer from God:

Gen 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
Gen 11:2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
Gen 11:3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
Gen 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top [may reach] unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Gen 11:5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people [is] one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Gen 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
Gen 11:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
Gen 11:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

Was God the author of confusion that day?
