    Every time there is a tragedy, the Christians seem to jump right onboard with the lost world in giving worldly solutions.

    How many threads do we have now as to who we would arm with what?

    Why do I rarely, if ever, hear CHRISTIANS presenting a SPIRITUAL solution when the problem really is spiritual?

    Why do the ones who are supposed to be the lighthouse on the hill seemingly point the lost and downtrodden more to guns and everything BUT God in times of trouble and tragedy?[IMG]

    Because we choose to assume that people will already accept and understand that the obvious spiritual issues and Christ (the obvious only solution) is a given. That leaves us to discuss other practical solutions that can be engaged in to address the problem at hand.

    Here's an example:
    Fred calls me up and says he has lost his job. We can assume Fred is praying and I will be praying for him and with him. What else us to be done? I then tell Fred about places I know that are hiring, job websites he might want to visit, and let him know who in our church might be able to help with resume' help. We also discuss his other needs and work on how our church family can help him and his family. We trust that God will provide and look for ways He might work through us to accomplish His faithfulness to provide.

    It is not an either/or situation as you suggest in the OP. It is both/and, even if you do not see it overtly.

    2 points!

    the answer jesus/Giod ONLY works and applies towards his own, and the Lord jesus also told us to take up the sword to defend ourselves in a corrupt culture/times!

    And that is, pardon my French, ridiculously dumb. God keeps leaving the door open for us to use these opportunities to point folks to Him, but we choose to discuss practical solutions?

    Now wonder this world remains in trouble.

    Why do we assume Fred is praying? Fred might be an atheist.

    .

    And this might again explain why the church seems to be so impotent. For like you and the way you ran through that, it makes God seem like an afterthought or just something to check off the list before you get back to your "practical" methods of dealing with the situation.

    Right, kinda like folks saying let's pray for so and such and so but knowing they aren't really going to pray to God sincerely because they don't really like the person.

    :confused: Why EVER share the Gospel if that is true?

    Where does He say this? Just wondering if we're dealing with an actual sword or His word.

    just saying that the Gospel of christ brings spiritually deliverance to sinners, but NOT physical protection, that is why jesus would OK us to take up and bear arms in a sinful world!

    Here's the verse....it is a literal sword.
    Luk 22:36 And He said to them, "But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one (NASB)

    I understand that. But the crux of the matter at hand is evil and a world that has turned away from God. The only reason we are here is to point people to Him in every situation.

    That's perhaps one of the reasons HE called His people to turn from their wicked ways and repent---to turn away from sin and back to Him---and He would heal the land.

    That's perhaps why He tells us to in all our ways acknowledge Him.

    But even when we do say we're doing these things, kinda like with Mont, it comes across as an afterthought on a to-do-list instead of genuine turning to God to make things right.

    You've got parents supposedly telling sixth graders to take a gun to school to protect himself.

    You've got folks making thread after thread, post after post of THEIR solution.

    What is brought to mind is Proverbs 1.
    “How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple?
    How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing
    and fools hate knowledge?
    23 If you turn at my reproof,[a]
    behold, I will pour out my spirit to you;
    I will make my words known to you.
    24 Because I have called and you refused to listen,
    have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded,
    25 because you have ignored all my counsel
    and would have none of my reproof,
    26 I also will laugh at your calamity;
    I will mock when terror strikes you,
    27 when terror strikes you like a storm
    and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,
    when distress and anguish come upon you.
    28 Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer;
    they will seek me diligently but will not find me.
    29 Because they hated knowledge
    and did not choose the fear of the Lord,
    30 would have none of my counsel
    and despised all my reproof,
    31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way,
    and have their fill of their own devices.
    32 For the simple are killed by their turning away,
    and the complacency of fools destroys them;
    33 but whoever listens to me will dwell secure
    and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.
    ” Pro. 1:22-33

    That specific promise to heal the land was given in the context of the Lord relationship to isreal though!

    Agree that we who are saved need to walk closer with God, but just saying the world will get worse until Christ returns, and we just might have to use 'worldly' means to defend ourselves!

    The ten commandments were given to the Israelites too.:smilewinkgrin: The principles don't go away just because the people change. That is why you have the same things taken place in the US that took place with ancient Israel.

    But the worldly means is NOT what we should be known for. If you have to defend yourself, then by all means do so. But until that point, we should be using this and all things as an opportunity to point people to Christ.
