So Miers should withdrawal because someone said that the Texas Air National Guard should have the son of George Herbert Walker Bush and grandson of Prescott Bush? Such a call should hardly have mattered anyway. Bush was a fine pilot and served well.

    WND misses again.

Meanwhile during a similar period George W. Bush followed his father's footsteps by becoming a military fighter pilot. Though his father, who flew in WWII, was the youngest aviator in US Navy history, GW Bush chose to fly in the Texas Air National Guard. Despite the claims that the National Guard was a part-time assignment, Lieutenant GW Bush completed over a year and a half of full-time, active duty flight training between 1968 and 1969 learning to fly the F102 Delta Dagger jet missile interceptor, an aging and dangerous aircraft. After completing training and receiving high marks Bush flew the supersonic jets from 1969 through 1972.

While Democrats insinuate that this was safe stateside duty, several pilots were killed in the Texas Guard flying F-102s. The Texas Air Guard was also part of the US Air Defense Command, and just like the Air Guard units flying combat air patrols over American cities since 9-11, the Air Guard protected the continental US from potential Soviet air attack during the Cold War, often scrambling jets in the middle of the night to intercept unknown "bogies" coming in over the frozen sub-artic of Canada or the shark-infested waters of the Gulf of Mexico. At the time Soviet bombers routinely used Cuba as a forward operating base.

In 1972, as the Vietnam War ended and the F-102 was being retired from Guard service, Lieutenant Bush (after serving nearly four consecutive years flying jet fighters for the Texas unit) asked for a temporary three month transfer to an Air Guard unit in Alabama so he could work on a political campaign. Since Guardsman have civilian jobs and often need to move, his routine request was granted. Having ignoring his required annnual flight physical he was taken off flight status.

Bush performed miscellaneous administrative duties there and his pay records demonstrate he was paid for these duties. Military records show that after returning to Texas he fulfilled his minimum annual Guard training requirements for 1973 in one lump period between May and July. He was never disciplined in any way by the Air Force or Guard.

With the Vietnam War over and thousands of active duty pilots flooding the Guard and Reserves, Bush then asked for an early release in order to attend Harvard Business School. This routine request was also granted and he was released from duty eight months early. GW Bush received an honorable discharge in September 1973. Bush's total time in the Guard was nearly five and a half years --with over 18 months of it on active duty.

LE I think she should make it to the hearings but
again my unvarnished opinion. She should be asked
point blank and from different angles about Roe vs
Wade...because that is what this is allllllllllllllllllllllllllllll about.

So why wasn't Roberts asked as well...I don't know
he should have been asked from all sides and from
different angles...but all we got was from his
past statements "Law of the land" "Precendence".

So its monumental that somebody stand up and be
an honest broker and represent the voting Christian who has tremendous loyalty in doing just
    that...voting.

LE it will be interesting to see if this Lady is
a tough cookie and she makes it to the hearings
eventhough the pressure is building to remove herself...I don't think the White House has nudged
or hinted as such but also they seem more nuetral
    today than past days.

So I think bushs mindset is ..she should a least
    be given a hearing.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH STATING YOU WOULD OVERTURN
ROE VS WADE???(with your stated reasons for doing
so)?? Like I said we need a breath of fresh air
and an honest broker who will tell it like it is
and respect and give credit to the Christian voter
    on this monumental issue.

I'm not saying this is what you intended, but this is what it sounds like to me:

"I want a judge who will uphold Roe v. Wade, so I'm going to insist that nominees be upfront about it under the pretense of honesty and of appeal to the Christian right. I know that such a judge would never be confirmed, so I win in the end."

I think it is obvious to the Democrats that Roberts and Miers will not uphold Roe. Afterall, only Democrats have in their platform undying support for the murder of the unborn.

I believe God will honor an honest answer and from
    and honest straight forward question.

After all He is still in charge and still sovereign
who should hide the truth?...who should not communicate the hard work and play by the rules of
tax paying Christians who honor Romans 13.

Why is it so hard to communicate to the American
people that Harriet Miers will vote to overturn it
because of the voiceless third party...and that
third party be given a chance to have a voice.

THE CHILD...THAT THEN BECOMES AN ADULT...WHO IS THEN THANKFUL SOMEONE SPOKE UP FOR THEM IN DECIDING TO OVERTURN ROE VS WADE.

Deception and pretending or trying to fool people
will never be honored by God.

    SPEAK THE TRUTH!

Amen. Examples of courage and truth are noted throughout the Bible and God honored that, i.e., Esther, Daniel, Joseph, to name three.

From one Republican to another, it ain't gonna happen. For all the rhetoric uttered by the powers that be, Roe v. Wade has not been overturned, and this decision will not be overturned.

My prediction is that Meiers will not withdraw. President Bush is not going to accept defeat on this matter. Although I think that Meiers was an absolutely horrible pick for the SCOTUS, I give him credit for sticking to his guns on this. And everyone here knows that I am not a fan of the President. I wonder if she will get that "up or down vote" that was such an issue with the other federal judges.

Greetings from RAINY Asbury Park (flight was cancelled),

None of them operated in a democratic republic.

Besides, I would oppose any judicial nominee who told ahead of time how he/she would rule in a specific case without hearing arguments first.

Would any of you want a judge to tell you before your case even started that it didn't what the arguments on your side were; that he/she was going to rule against you?

It is possible that the overturning of Roe v. Wade will happen in the Supreme Court. The court reverses themselves from time to time. I think that the Republicans should try every year to pass a constitutional amendment to outlaw abortion. Something has to be done.

True, they operated as prisoners held captive in a foreign land. Fail to see your moot point concerning courage and truth, unless you are implying that courage and truth are not relevent in a democratic republic.

    BiR,

Why do you think she is a horrible pick? I agree with you, but curious re your own argument.

I hope this finds you doing well, my friend.

Personally, I'd not have gotten to the nominee process -- It is such a contentious process regardless of the nominee. I don't think I'd want to go through it (ok, I'm not at all qualified, so I don't have to worry :D ).

I wouldn't have picked Hariett Meiers, but I sure don't blame her for withdrawing.

    Greetings to you, ftr:

I trust that you and yours are being showered with God's Blessings. [IMG]

Sorry, I didn't see your question. This pick for the Supreme Court was a bad one, primarily due to her lack of experience, and the very vague details about her / her record.

I am utterly astonished that she has withdrawn though. I didn't see that one coming.

    Warm regards to you,
    BiR (traveling again)

    Just a thought.

She may have knowingly been a sacrificial lamb to prepare the way for the real nominee.

    A Rovian maneuver? ;)
