Whenever I see this kind of thinking I wonder - "If a man is born with a proclivity to abuse children, does that make it acceptable?"

I feel certain that paedophiles would tell us that they too were born that way.

If I was born with a desire for fornication would that excuse it.

Homosexuality is sin. Men are born sinners. So yes, I suppose we can say that homosexuals are "born that way."

But so are murderers and adulterers.

Done deal = adherence to the word of God

Can you prove the existance of a "gay gene" Cindy?

Maybe I can come up with a paedophile, murderer, or adultery gene.

The only problem with your analysis is that the sin nature means we are predisposed to sin. It does not mean we will always lie, cheat, steal, etc...

Even the most lost person will do good, moral and noble things, even from heartfelt concern.

On the other hand, a person who is born with an actual genetic makeup is wired to act a certain way no matter what. Nobody is wired to be gay against their will.

We are all sinners who are totally depraved. Some of us are saved by the grace of God.

Apologies Cindy. It appeared from your comments above about Joseph's post and calling "done deal" a closed mind that you were somehow defending this sin by agreeing with the "gay gene" theory.

So you would agree that the arguments supporting the "born that way" theory would apply to all sins?

Ahh, yes, it's man's stamp of approval on what makes someone gay. It just lessens any sort of accountability; "I was born this way, so don't judge my lifestyle." Yes, just like rapists were born that way and murderers, thiefs, those who are promiscuous. Wow, why not make everything an excuse. There are scientist trying to find a gene for why people comit heinous crimes. That's pathetic. Only because we can now be sympathetic and they lose all accountability and spend their sweet old time in a mental institution because of their mental disabitlity.

It's a three letter word. S I N, rather simple. But it's only like man to justify one's actions. We are born to rebel, sin, and that is what we do. For some it's being promiscuous, others, getting drunk, or stealing, cheating, committing heinous acts and the lists goes on.

Can we strecth it a little and say when a boy at 5 decides to be a girl that he was somehow wired to be a girl?? Are transexuals really supposed to be born the opposite sex. Do they have a gene that gives them female tendencies and therefore want to be a woman?

Man may buy the argument, but not God.

It's not being closed minded, it's reading and accepting God's Word for what it is, not what we want it to be.

I would agree with that from the standpoint that we are all born into spiritual death / sin. I would also agree, as I stated on page 2, that since we are born into sin, that means we are born with the will to sin. It is by the grace of God and through salvation that God transforms us by the renewing of our minds and makes of us a new creation.

    le bel,

Someone is going to come on here and tell you that there are people that have both sets of chromosomes, male and female, for instance a female with two x chromosomes. So before they do, I just want to point out that that is an exceedingly rare condition, so 99 percent of all homosexuals, transvestites etc. will not fall into this exceedingly rare situation.

"Nobody is wired to be gay against their will."

My experience as a mother tells me this statement is false.

    Hey Tennis,

I think we actually agree here. Might you explain to me what your original disagreement with me was and why you attacked me so viciously?

Then you would also agee that it is a sin which has no part in the Body of Christ. It is a sin which must being repented of and forsaken, just like any other sin? That there is no more excuse for this sin than any other? It is a sin just like murder, adultery, and paedophilia?

If this is the case, please forgive for misinterpreting you.

Experiences are very subjective and might be different from person to person.

    LOL, I figured someone would.

In any case, that's extremely rare. I saw a special about people who were born that way, female with male chromosomes. I can't say I fault them for having certain tendencies, that's a defect. It's entirely different when you're seemingly healthy and just *think* you're born gay for the sake of justifying the lifestyle.

I mean if someone's son came up to them and said he wanted to be a girl, should they run out and buy him girls clothes? I mean, if he thought he was wired this way. A boy without this rare defect, just an ordinary *Christian* boy.

Joseph, I am sorry for the attack. I must have misunderstood your stance. I have dealt with this issue for a very long time now. I have seen gross ignorance concerning homosexuality. I firmly believe that people are born with these tendencies. We saw this in our son as early as three years old when instead of superman, his hero was pippi longstockings. He is now 18 and in college and struggles every day. He has been to Christian counseling most of his teenage years. He has literaly cried in my arms because to have these feelings AND honor God in his life, probably means a life of celibacy and loneliness.
When people start spuing cliches about homosexuals without any real thought, I admit I see red.
Now for the people that think my husband and myself raised this child wrong...I have 3 other children that are as hetero as they come.

I would covet the prayers of everyone else that reads this.

    Cindy,

The 50 corelation that I mentioned would mean the certain emotional makeups are more prone to homosexuality than some others. The fact that your other kids are straight does not have any baering on the situation with your other children. I hope you wont think I am interrigating you, because I am not, but you questioned the psychologist I mentioned so I would like to ask you one or two questions if you don't mind.

Was your husband effectionant? Did he hug and express emotion? Was he close to the son, and was the son free to express emotion to him? Was your husband moderate with the discipline? Was he demanding about performance as a boy in sports and such?

I would like to hear a fist hand exception to what the psychologist said if this is in fact an exception.

He (the psycholgist) said that he was counseling a gay man once who insistied that his father did fine by him, but when he questioned the young man, he found out that the father never hugged him or shared emotion with him. Either way, you have my prayers.

I wish you could meet my husband. He is 6'4, 260 pounds and ALL teddy bear....my son KNOWS he is loved by his father and his mother. My husband has bent over backwards to let our son feel loved. We both have spent more time, effort and money into this son more than the other 3 children combined.
My husband and myself have cried on our knees concerning my son many many nights.

Ok, I'll chalk it up as an exception. But I was close with a young christian man in college who was struggleing with this type of situation, and he was not an exception to this rule.

My heart breaks for you, and especially for your husband because I know he probably has a harder time dealing with it than you do. You have my fervent prayers!

    What does Scripture say?

Certain sins are not as fixable(if that's the right word) as others. If someone engages in sexual perversion(anything outside the confines of marriage) it is seen as a sin. If one chooses to have premarital sex despite the wishes of one's belief, does that make them stop? Not to my understanding. I know many professing "Christians" who shack up and have for numerous years. Will they fix their sin? Highly doubt it. Does that imply one is born to be promiscuous despite what Scripture says? No. Lust is very hard to combat but nonetheless it is sin like anything else.

With that said, you have my prayers. It must be a tough situation.
