"Maybe I have the wrong idea of what ecumenical is."
    "
Trust me, you do. But don't worry, so has the rest of the BB, so you'll fit right in.

"Isn't it the fellowship of a variety of religions such as Baptist, Assembly of God,
    Pentecostal, etc?"
    "
In the context of this discussion Ecumenism has to be defined as a movement promoting cooperation and better understanding among different Christian groups.

"How can these different religions fellowship together if their beliefs are so differnet? I've heard that a while back they even included Catholics & Mormons. "
    "
In the case of Promisekeepers as long as all participants embrace the same set of family values it can be a surprisingly diverse ecumenical group.

Cloud is generally critical of IFB'ers that don't ascribe to KJVOnlyism. He considers us compromisers or else "modernists" ourselves.

Cloud and I couldn't even agree on a definition for "IFB". I would definitely reject the notion that he is one... while he would probably do the same.

Mr. Cloud's inaccurate statements about the SBC cause me to question the integrity of his other articles. Therefore, I don't rely on any of his articles as credible; even the ones where we might agree.

I am not a Southern Baptist because I belong to a General Baptist Church.

I am not really familiar with the SBC, but I do know some very good Christians who are members of SBC Churches. It seems to me that you could say the same things about almost any large group of churches. You could make similar claims about all Churches in Louisiana. Now if you looked at individual churches you would find many or even most do not resemble what is being said.

I am a citizen of the United States. I may not agree with everything done here, but that doesn't mean I will give up my citizenship.

The author of the article assumes everyone in a SBC is the same. He's missing the point. In fact, it sounds a lot like he doesn't have a single clue.

To use an old SBC addage . . . bless his heart.

David Cloud, at his "best" again!

BTW, I believe he makes some legitimate points; but the angle of the whole article is just slanted the wrong way. IMHO

Since this has turned into a "defend the sbc movemen", let me ask, how much of every dollar given to missions goes to the missionary? And how much of that dollar goes to getting that amount to the missionary?

For those who don't understand the question, please refrain from comment.

About the same amount it takes for travel expenses during deputation for non-SBC Missionaries. :D
